Re: Would this be an issue?
My daughter will be in the same boat. She will be one guide behind when she graduates and I hate the thought of her missing out on the last one. I never even thought of this. I don't know if she will be able to handle that, but we have a few years to decide. She's only going into 7th grade.

Re: Independent work with multiple users and 1 guide
I made student accountability sheets for the kids. You can download them from the HOD Preparing Facebook page. I had three in Preparing at the same time. It worked fine. If one student needed a book the other was reading, then they had to just choose something else to do. It was a great chance to do...

Re: Who uses bigger for fifth grade?
I'm not sure how helpful I'll be, but here goes. I combined three kids into bigger this year for our first year of homeschooling. (Gasp!) I had a 10 yr 5th grade girl, 9 yr 4 th grade son, and 7yr first grader. My 5th grader could've been in 6th grade and my 1st grader could have been in 2nd grade. ...

Re: 4 Day Week Schedule
We do Bigger at our house for a 4 day week. On Day 1, we do just as it is, except add the Science Notebooking from Day 2. So then Day 3 science is on Day 2, Day 4 science is on Day 3, etc. Then, on Day 4, We do a lot of history. However, it doesn't really take up a whole lot more time. We do our Day...

Homeschooling in Okinawa
My husband became a Navy chaplain and we're moving to Okinawa, Japan in April. Are there any HOD users over there? Are there active homeschool groups over there?

Re: FYI white boards.
Oh my gosh, it helps here! We have a two year old who likes to say, "I do it!" So, we end up with the dry markers. Thanks for the tip!!! I have a two year old doing this exact thing. He sneaks into his sister's room and colors with her pink and purple dry erase markers on everything. Any ideas on h...

Struggling with my 5th grader
We're doing Singapore 4A and Rod and Staff (Building with Diligence). She ends up in tears at EVERY assignment. She says she can't remember it or that she doesn't understand it. She got straight As in public school and this is our first year of homeschooling. I don't know what to do with her. We wer...

Re: I have a problem with the use of this word in a HOD book
Why not use this as a "teachable" moment? Yes, that word was used in the past. Should we ignore it? The holocaust is our past also. Do we ignore it? No. We use these terrible things to teach our children right and wrong. Loving the Lord, acting like a Christian or not. Use this moment.

Grade 1 Phonics
What type of curriculum do I use for this? He has finished kindergarten (reading before kindergarten started). He reads at a 3rd grade level, but I don't know how much phonics he has learned. You know what I mean? I ordered FLL Level 1, but it looks way too easy and babyish. Should I go ahead and us...

Where to Buy Supplies
I just wondered where the cheapest place to buy supplies are.
Tempera paint--liquid or powder?
Watercolor paper?
Anything else I can't think of?
Any tips or favorite online/physical stores that you buy from?

New Homeschooling Mom-- discipline
This will be my family's first year of homeschooling. We haven't begun yet, but I'm anticipating discipline problems since Mom is the teacher. How did you all handle this with your own children when you first started? When we begin, my kids will be 11 (girl), 9 (boy), and 7 (boy). Thanks for all you...
