Re: Well...had to drop Singapore...
Just curious, did your DD start out using Singapore from the beginning or you started using it recently? My dd was pulled from public school mid-3rd grade. That was last December. She had been doing "Everyday Math" but the curriculum was changed for 3rd grade, so she was already starting off with s...

Well...had to drop Singapore...
DD was just not getting it. I tried with her and she'd get so, so frustrated. She doesn't have any "issues" other than just not being a particularly mathy kid. She's like her mom in that way. I think Singapore is a great program, but it just wasn't working for us. I decided to try CLE. I have looked...

Re: First Day of Preparing
I thought it was a lot too, until I realized that I created more than there needed to be. I am putting the assignments in a spreadsheet for dd so that she can work more independently from her workboxes, so I had her copy over the entire poem, and copy the Bible verse, and write down the defin...

Re: Difficult First Day, Anyone???
Well, I can certainly relate. Today was just so-so. DD was diligent to get to work, but ssllllllooooooooowwwwwww to motivate. Everything just took so long. This past week she is complaining about going to sleep (scared of shadows or something) so I was up late with her last night sipping warm milk a...

Re: Just to let you all know my desicion
Mumkins, I think it's a great decision! I empathized with your struggle to do a US History program for 2 years when in Canada!!! I hope you have a great experience and will still be here often to discuss DITHOR! Have a great year!!!

Re: Spanish??
I have heard that La Clase Divertida is very good. I think it's about $110 retail though, so... This year I went to the homeschool store and got a workbook (there are lots) and we are just going to work on those, and get the Spanish/English books that the library has. I will also try to be c...

Re: DITHOR 2/3 schedule - 5, 10, 15 days?
Okay, here's the way I've been doing it, and I think it's the right way. I decide on a genre (or let dd decide), and the books for that genre. If they look just right or slightly easy for her reading level, I'll pick 3, if one is harder, just 2 or if 1 is really hard, just 1. Sometimes I am limited ...

It's OK!!!!
That's why it's called "day 5" and not "Friday"!
Hope you are well and that next week is smoother!

Re: New & starting "Preparing" in a couple of weeks
Hi Charlotte, and welcome! I'm doing Preparing this year too, getting started in a couple of week. I have been pouring over the manual and books and we are very excited to get started! I'll look forward to seeing you around as we go on this journey together. I'm lucky...I started with Bigger last ye...

Re: Time line question for Preparing experts :)
I'd like to know this too as our school room is in an office with french doors and I'm out of wall space. I wasn't quite sure how to set up the timeline if I didn't want to tape it to the door. I also have littles around often and don't want them to mess with it. What has anyone else done?

And don't forget the movies after you've read the books. There's one for Kit, Felicity, Samantha and Mollie.
BTW, Samantha is 1908 I believe and is great for the Industrial Revolution and Suffragette movement.

Re: So what are your extras/electives??
My dd is in Girl Scouts, and this year I have enrolled her in a one-day enrichment program that will include Spanish/Art/Music/PE/Public Speaking. For both kids I would like to take part in a nature hike group but I'm still gathering more info on that. If it's a whole day, I won't do that, but do wa...
