To "say" or not to "say"?
About Writing.I purchased a book published by Scholastic called "Banish Boring Words". It is awesome! It gives like 5 pages of words to use INSTEAD of "said" or "nice". But, I think my kids are getting carried away with it. Their writing almost sounds weird now. Everyone "exclaims", "mutters", "ques...

MTMM with One Natn Under God?
My daughter is skipping Rev2Rev. We are going into MTMM for her 8th grade year and I want to add the 50 States Under God from Rev2Rev. I have the Rev2Rev guide and was just going to follow the 50 States plans in that guide. Has anyone done this? TIA

Re: A question about Science in Preparing
I understand your concern, but rest assured! The science in each guide gets more complicated. My oldest is finishing up Res to Ref right now, and the science is just right. As you will notice, in Preparing, they begin to see them doing actual experiments. The experiments grow and REALLY grow into ki...

We school during the summer because we only school 3 days a week during the school year. I work one day a week and they have music lessons one day a week.

Re: Dictation only for spelling?
I have 4 kids. With my first 2, I just couldn't (coming from a teaching background) let go of a spelling program. They did NOT do the spelling lists but did dictation and All About Spelling. One was a "natural speller" and has progressed out of dictation at 13. The other was a poor speller with dysg...

Shakespeare Argh!
My son (12...almost 13) is really struggling with Shakespeare. He has some mild learning issues and is not college bound. He is a wonderful musician and plans to be a piano tuner and repair person as well as a percussion teacher. I chose to do Shakespeare with him for the exposure, but he hates it a...

I think she would find the short book "Teaching From Rest" by Sarah Mackenzie VERY uplifting and encouraging. It is a quick and easy read.

Re: Reading Struggles
I am a reading specialist, and I believe with all that is in me that All About Reading is the best program out there. It is based in Orton Gillingham, so it should be good for a dyslexic child.

Nd Help Res2Ref History Written Narrations
My son (12) just started Res2Ref. He has some mild learning issues which include, but are not limited to, working memory. Written Narrations have always been a struggle. Through most all of CTC, I outlined the history readings for him, and he worked from the outline and his memory to write his narra...

Well, I bet it IS hard for you with such a large family. I love large families and know they are blessings. I want to recommend you read a book called "Teaching From Rest" by Sarah Mackenzie. It changed the way I feel about and approach homeschooling. It is truly a blessing to read. There will ALWAY...
