Re: Tell me about the science?
I am mainly concerned with Preparing and CTC... wondering how the science is going with those more toward the middle school years. I was so excited looking at Sonlight and BJU and their creationist resources.

Tell me about the science?
How happy have you been with it? What other science programs have you used (for comparison purposes)? Before discovering HOD I was all set to go with Sonlight or BJU.

Re: $435 for complete set??
It is actually a very good price considering that has everything included. Other programs are that much just for history, and it is all non-consumable! I just wanted to mention that the story time and DITHOR are both very flexible so if you have some books you already own or can borrow from friends ...

Maybe this should be a sticky post at the top?

Tamara, I am sorry if you meant for only Carrie to answer. Scene follows the rule as stated in The Phonics Road: "C before e, i, or y always says /S/. These links can help. They have to do with tutoring phonics in people who are already reading. http://www.thephonicspage.org/On%20Phonics/whoneedspho...

I would sell WWE. We were happy with it when we used it, but most people shouldn't need to use it with HOD. Letting it go as opposed to shelving it might reduce your stress.

Re: ds6 just finished K5 abeka phonics - what next?
Don't you all finish phonics? My DD could read Frog and Toad when she was 5. But now she is needing more phonics in order to get over the 5th grade reading level hump. Webster's Speller goes up to a 12th grade reading level. The King's James version is somewhere between the two (9th I think).

Re: Does anyone use FLL and/or WWE with any of HOD's guides?
Seeing these other posts made me think about it a little more. FLL and WWE are different in their approach to narration. The work in HOD seems more similar to FLL. WWE is in a class all its own, but some students don't really need all of the incremental steps.

Re: Has anyone used books from the extension as storytime books
aha! Thanks. Okay, so if I only do one between these two, which to read: Toliver's Secret, or Guns for General Washington? I need to choose the one that would be easier and seem shorter or more exciting.
Oh, and I already have Sarah Whitcher's story. What book could that replace do you think?

Re: Has anyone used books from the extension as storytime books
So Christine let me know what you decide to do. I just can't let go of the chronological extra reading. I already have at least 2 that I plan to leave out. I should be able to just schedule the rest in the storytime boxes and then just write which page to turn to for storytime in another box during ...

Re: Has anyone used books from the extension as storytime books
Thanks! I want to get them in chronological order and use the storytime discussion. I buy an open and go guide so I can make work for myself instead of using it.

Re: Does anyone use FLL and/or WWE with any of HOD's guides?
If you want to use FLL instead of Rod and Staff I think that could work. We used FLL 1 and I really don't think that is necessary along with HOD. With WWE the skill progression/way of teaching may be different, so you may want to go ahead and use it, but not with all of the writing in HOD... rather ...
