Re: How to schedule with co-op

We have a 1/2 day co-op, too, on Tuesday afternoons. What I have done is do double science on Monday (works well b/c the readings are not that long and the activities flow) and Double Storytime as well. Also, most days we start at 8:30am, but on co-op day, we get up early and start school by 7:30am....

Re: Best tips for peace, sanity, or really helpful stuff!

Great ideas! Our current chore chart system is just not working... maybe the body check, etc, will! And I like it on the back of their doors. I would like an uncluttered fridge, for sure! And, they won't come out of their rooms until it's all done... maybe! :D

Re: Dictation Everyday?

I'm laughing inside... how have you gotten your kids to LOVE dictation and grammar? It's just something we "do" and they are glad for a day off. Any tips appreciated! Now my kids love storytime, history, science... that kind of stuff... but not grammar!

Re: I need help. Bad first day.

I agree with pp--- cover it with prayer! The Lord promises to give you wisdom if you ask (see James 1:5-6, I think!) And then... start with the more "fun" stuff. I've decided that we're doing the whole left page 1st, so we get the "heart" of the program in the beginning and start the school day off ...

Re: Bigger Storytime Question

Hi! We're going to start in a couple of weeks with a 7 and nearly 9 y/o, as well! As for doing the Storytime Box, what I did last year was to pick more than one book. We often did more than one book in the 20 day period when doing Beyond, depending upon the length of the books. We'll usually do a ch...

Dithor 4/5 - 3 days a week

Hi all, For those of you who have done the DITHOR 4/5 level and have done it 3 times a week, how has that gone for you? We did 2/3 last year, and did all 9 genres. We really enjoyed that, but this year, my dd is doing Bigger plus extensions, and most likely DITHOR 4/5. What I'm really wondering is h...

Re: please explain DITHOR to me again

It's more than just projects. It leads dc in analyzing the literature based on Godly character traits, as well as analyzing elements of literature (character, mood, setting, etc). So it definitely is just more than reading and projects. It helps kids to think about what they are reading as it relate...

Re: A couple of questions about Bigger...

Thanks for the discussion on this subject. I like the idea of only doing 1 vocab word to start. My 7 y/o son is not a fan of writing, and is still on the cusp of beginning the ERS, so I don't want to push him too hard to the point he hates school. I like knowing Julie cuts back here and there, too, ...

Re: State Testing- Results are in!

That's great! I administered the Iowa Test to my dd at the beginning of June. Could you tell me how long it took for you to get the results, from the time the tests were submitted? I'm anxiously awaiting the results. It's our 1st time testing, too!

Glad to hear it went well!

Hi!
Welcome! Here is a link to a thread that discusses the "why's" of HOD's choices. I found this to be an EXCELLENT thread to go through, and it may answer your questions!
