Re: Nervous about math...
many like Singapore but you don't have to use HOD suggested math. if you were happy with what you were going to use before finding HOD you can still use it. we use a math that has DVD instruction but it also has teacher manual. We are very happy with it.it doesn't affect any of of the guide. we just...

Re: Questioning myself, would like your opinion.
I am using Beyond with my 1st grader who turned 7yrs in October. it fits him very well. Someone else will have to answer for the older kids. i am not famiiar with doing extensions and my 7yr old is my oldest. Someone may suggest combining the older two in the next guide, Bigger.... depends on their ...

Re: Exploring Homeschooling as an option for our family

Story of Inventions in rev to Rev
I have a copy of Story of Inventions that must be the edition before the one HOD says they will use in REV to REV. it only has 19 chapters. I think it is missing the chapter about Henry Ford and i am not sure what else. Is the rest of the text the same, just laid out differently, so obviously the pa...

Re: Un-combining? placement help
I agree with the last poster. i have two kids close together and do back to back guides. way better for us. they fit perfect intheir guides and older perfectionist brother can't compare and criticize younger sister who takes things a little slower.

Re: Alternate Storytime books for LHFHG?
i used other Burgess books b/c my son did a 2yr Kindergarten. He loved the Burgess books. we also read Blinky Bill , an Australian classic for children. it was hard to find used. might be able to read on-line, i think. Can't remember it was a couple years ago when i got it.
enjoy HOD!

Re: CARRIE IS DOING HIGH SCHOOL!!!!
i can see how the high school is 4years. but i started my kids in LHFHG for Kindergarten and when doing a guide a year it comes out that the last guide would be for "11th grade". Now i know lots of homeschoolers have finished a year early or so from school, but are we missing something b/c we won't ...

Re: math and spelling questions
we have used Math-u-see from the start and just stuck with it since it seems to be fine with my kids.
My son has done Primer and just finished Alpha. so we are about to start Beta.
We just go at our pace and include it everyday as you would Singapore.

Re: LHTH question
You could just pick a different storytime set for the first year or do the Burgess set if she is ready for them and then do another set of books the next year for 1st grade. My son was an October baby and when he was turning 5 in October we started "K" and did it for 2 years. We did the Burgess book...

Re: 2 guides? Do 1 at at time?
it seems like i do this alot. i will have my son do what he can as far as anything independent in Beyond and try to get most of my daughter done in LHFHG. OR i will do it the other way around and do most of my son's and then do all of my daughters. LHFHG seems to go really fast and if i do hers firs...

Re: 2 guides? LHFHG and Beyond schedule?
These are exactly the guides and grades i am doing this year. I try to have my son do his independent work while doing things with my daughter in LHFHG. Or he will play with his 3 yr old sister. It does help that he can read well. He can read directions and if he doesn't understand he will ask. He c...

clueless for DITHOR day 13 "theme" discussion for non-fictio
Today in DITHOR it was reviewing main idea and introducing theme for the non-fiction genre. We sorta came up with a theme, but I wasn't explaining it well and don't think I really understood in myself. Then there were 3 questions that all seemed like they were asking the same thing. We could only re...
