Re: Half speed with Beyond
Bob Jones uses pre-cursive handwriting, however his teacher decided he would do better learning cursive right away. I'm ok with that, however I don't feel like he got a solid foundation in how to form the letter's b/c he was writing cursive over pre-cursive sentences. Does that make sense? I have P...

Re: Re-introduction
CLE is a full reading program - so I think it might be an either/or, but DD is such a bookworm, that I'm sure we could sneak the emerging readers in for her independent reading. I did the "I Wonder" reader and the LU questions orally with my ds last year inbetween books in the ER set. My ds ...

Re: using 2 guides with one child- LHTH and LHFHG
The thing that would keep you in LHFHG for another year, instead of going to Beyond next year, is fine motor skills IMO. There is a LOT more writing in Beyond. If you think your son would be able/willing to do copywork by next year, then plunge right into LHFHG (also you might want to read the devo...

Re: You've all convinced me....
I agree, perhaps you could pick a couple of the Bigger extension books or even a few of the Beyond storytime books (ones that you have not chosen to read aloud, like maybe Squanto, A Lion to Guard Us, If You Lived 100 Years Ago or If You Traveled West in a Covered Wagon) or look at the HOD Sample Bo...

Re: Order of history
Hi! We tried out SL K before finding HOD, and abandoned it for the same reasons as heart_mom. We found that we wanted to wait until our dc had solid foundations in the truth before introducing false religions. My dh and I want to teach our dc about our nation's Biblical heritage and the people who h...

Re: Singapore and LHFHG question
I think you could either do multiple lessons until you come to newer material, or just skip to a spot later in 2A. I started at the end of 2A (measurement, I think?) with my ds when he was almost 5. He is not one to want to do extra of anything involving writing, so that worked better for us. We sta...

Re: using 2 guides with one child- LHTH and LHFHG
The LHTH guide is only one page per day, so no right/left like in the later guides. The right side of LHFHG has reading/phonics, handwriting/fine motor, math and storytime. I'd save storytime for when you do the rest of LHFHG, so you wouldn't need any other books. So choose a phonics program, handwr...

Re: should I...
I'd do the Storytime box from LHFHG this year, and save Beyond's for when you do the left side of Beyond. The skills addressed are more advanced than in LHFHG, and LHFHG lays a good foundation. For extra read-alouds, you could always pick from the Beyond storytime books you're not planning on using ...

Re: Oh no...did I order the wrong guide?
I agree that for your dd Beyond would be still be fine, and you could also add some science or history notebooking if you wanted to increase the demands on her a bit. When you add in the info about your son, though, it may be worth considering going through Bigger's left side at a slower pace. You r...

Re: 5 yr old boy...HELP!
It sounds like an excellent investment of time, energy and love to do that! I started doing "school" with my ds when he was 4.5 mainly as another way to train him in obedience ;-) The tasks were well within his ability, they key was learning to participate joyfully for those times (5 minutes at firs...

Re: Help finding a thread about dc working independently
Thanks Kathy, that helps a lot . I think the one I was thinking of is more recent and more focused on following up with the dc after they've done their independent reading and tasks, but this is great!

Help finding a thread about dc working independently
Hi :) Can anyone link me to a somewhat recent thread about how you keep up with the material in the older guides, where the dc work mostly independently? It talked about how you assess their learning with the projects etc. I have a friend considering RevtoRev and Bigger, and wanted to get her a bit ...

Here's a couple of threads with some different ways people do 1/2 speed in different programs.

Re: one is challenging (autism) and one needs challenges
I also have a question that may seem silly but what do you do when your child just never gets a concept when you hs?- like it ps we have ieps and goals to master. What happens when if your child doesn't master a concept or skill in homeschooling? Do you keep a child working on 1st grade skills when...
