Re: Using DITHOR orally?
I just started dabbling with DITHOR, doing some of it orally with my ds (he's reading level 2 books right now). There are several days' instructions in the manual that refer directly to the student book, though it seems to differ depending on which level you're doing. For example, we're reading a fo...

Re: LHTH for 2 or 3 year old?
LHTH has worked best for my kids from 3.5-4.5yo, so far. Younger than that, dd was happy to join into LHFHG with older brother. With ds, I started LHFHG early, with dd I'm doing something else for a year and will start LHFHG after she's 5. We'll see what happens with the youngest...I suspect I may d...

Re: Beyond copywork - looking for ideas for reluctant writer
I have my ds do one line of the poem each day, and he illustrates on the top half of the page on day 4. I let him keep a copy of the whole poem with it so he can read the whole poem with his illustrated section. I had him do an extra day on the week that had 5 lines in the first stanza, just for som...

Re: placement
I agree with Kathleen. It's really not a big deal to use 2 guides for different levels. We did the ERs, 1A/B math activities and spelling from the Beyond guide last year while doing other materials for the "left side". If she's enjoying the stories and history in LHFHG, I'd say finish it off. It is ...

Re: Bigger Hearts Science Scope and Sequence?
Would the "Science Discovery" section at the end of the Bigger Hearts introduction be enough?

Re: wish I could find...
Here's one for Bigger http://www.heartofdakota.com/board3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7110#p51870 I can't find one for LHFHG, hopefully someone else will. It usually took 60-75 minutes for us. The only days it stretched to 90 minutes were days with painting, or science activities that the kids wanted to kee...

Re: I have a problem with the use of this word in a HOD book
I'm realy glad you mentioned this, as I have read that once already, and didn't know what it meant. Though every parent must be vigilant for their own family, I think HOD is quite conservative in their choices in general, and have not come across other problematic terms yet. I know that paren...

Organizing storytime & DITHOR books
Hi, There was a thread a while back that included organizing read-alouds and DITHOR books with stickers or labels...someone out there has good system for keeping track of the different genres and levels...I only have 3 sets of Beyond read-alouds and a bunch of level 2 DITHOR, and I'm already feeling...

Re: It's a five day program- should I make it 4?
If you do only 4 days a week in a 5 day program, does it mess with your head that the units aren't wrapping up neatly in a Monday-Friday week? (I'm assuming only one day's plans out of the guides are done each day.) I plan to do 5 day weeks, but I know there will be many times where dr appts, field...

Re: How do you keep a record of what you've done?
I'm not in FL, so I don't know if this would work, but could you pencil in the dates on the HOD guide pages and bring it with you to your end-of-year evaluation? You could either erase them once your year is "officially recorded", or maybe use a different color for later children? Do they need to ke...

Re: It's a five day program- should I make it 4?
Hi and welcome! What programs will you be doing? I like to do school 4 days a week and save the 5th for playdates, errands, appointments etc. (My ds does math, reading and handwriting on the 5th day as well. He needs the consistency :)) It adds 9 weeks, so we just spill over in to "next year", which...
