Re: Transcript question

If I was doing a transcript where I didn't list by grade and instead did by category then yes I would put the different bible classes under elective and list them as Carrie does. So New Testament Survey, Old Testament Survey etc.

Expected ship date for the US2 guide?

Carrie I was just wondering if you had an expected ship date for the printed US2 guide? I think the plan was the end of July but I couldn't remember if that was right or not. I'm excited for us to get the completed guide, but I think I'm more excited for you to be totally finished writing the high s...

Re: High School narrations

Kidsforhim I think you could jump into the last year if your dc has had experience with regular narrations. The directions are detailed and talk them through the steps of the different types of narrations. They usually are assigned an oral narration of the same type early in the week and then do the...

Re: High School narrations

I don't know what the official answer is, but I can share what I have seen. The years of doing HOD written narrations have served my son well and he had gotten where he could whip out a written narration pretty easily. It is a retelling of what he found interesting andit was pretty easy for him to d...

Re: MTMM / WG Question

My son did Algebra 1 with the MTMM guide and it worked out fine. We did TT though and I don't think it takes quite as long as Saxon. Also I think it would work to sub in the science from WG, but keep in mind that sometimes they do 2 lessons and that can take quite awhile to do. Sometimes science was...

Re: HOD Highschool Questions?

I will try and answer some of these. My son will do the last high school guide next year. As far as Rod and Staff we only did half of the 7th grade book and I can say yes it is more than the high schools do around here. It is very vigorous and thorough. My ds is most likely only going to do a 2 year...

Re: Book of Discovery alternative

I don't know if they have redone the Librivox recording, but the one they used to have was not very good. The reader was very difficult to understand. I had wanted to use it for my ds, but there was just no way to use it.

Re: Composers Study in Rev to Rev

I am pretty sure you would need the guide to see how she meshed the 2 resources together. I don't think they typically go together, I think Carrie put them together and then wrote plans so they integrated well.

Re: Extensions

If you look at how many guide you have before you get to the high school guides then CTC is technically the 5th grade guide, which is why it says extensions for 6th and 7th. As far as using extensions for an 11 year old 6th grader that is totally up to you and how challenged you think your child wil...

Re: Main spines for history

Each guide has several history spines and then there are storytime books or in the WG guide they are called Living Library books that are more the living books that go with the history. The history spines are those listed in the Economy package for each guide.

Re: Book of Discovery alternative

I don't see any way you could sub in something else for A Book of Discovery. It is a huge part of the program with assignments tied into it as well as just the flow of what they are studying. It is a very unique look at World Geography and no other resource looks at it the same way.

Re: Music During Independent Work

We have both types of learners here. My daughter and husband need complete quiet to concentrate and find music distracting if they are doing anything that requires a lot of focus. My son and I can listen to music while working and we both prefer it at times. I allow him to listen with his headphones...

Re: modifying the end of Preparing to include more US histor

My son started homeschooling with Preparing. He had zero US history in ps. We did the guides just as written and it worked out very well. I think if you try and add too much to Preparing you will miss out on the fact that it is just designed to lay some groundwork for future guides. I think the tend...

Re: Understanding the differences between HOD and Sonlight

I have never used Sonlight, honestly I read too much about issues with the books to ever consider it. Plus read, read and more reading with no other follow up activities just isn't my son's cup of tea. We have used HOD since Preparing and he will finish out his high school years with the US2 guide n...

Re: Dictation woes

As far as your daughter just wondering how she studies for the dictation. Does she write any challenging words or any words that have punctuation after them on a white board before doing the actual dictation. This was very helpful for my son. With a right brain, artsy child I would let her write the...
