We're in the same boat....but now I need to add an "ugh." LOL We are using MFW ECC. I am not continuting with MFW CtG. I didn't like all the books and wouldn't be using 2/3 of the materials so I didn't feel it was worth it. I preferred other books for a spine as well. If you search through some post...

My children also tend to write from the bottom up and counterclockwise no matter how much we work on it. But I know adults who do it too so I am letting it go. Now that my 7yo is learning cursive, it is getting better as the letters flow into each other so he has to do it that way. There are people...

I usually just tell her she can sit and not do the work I ask of her, and she will remain seating all day missing out on the rest of the days actitivites until her work is done...OR...she can do her work now, be done in 1/2 hr or more, and then be rea...

Tabitha, I just wanted to welcome you! The ladies are doing such a good job of helping you sort through your options. I agree that you can easily do your own language arts and math if you are happy with those. I also think you most likely will not need Writing with Ease if you use "Preparing...", b...

Re: I don't know what grade to claim to govt.

This is a really interesting thread to me, too. I am just starting this homeschool journey with my ds who will be 5 by fall. I think his placement is closest to Little Hands, although in some areas I think he is ready for Little Hearts. But we've decided to start with Little Hands just to get the h...

The spelling in Bigger is pretty easy for my daughter. I also have a spelling workbook to along with it. I have her put the HOD spelling words into sentences and do what it says in the box. I also do the Dictation along with it. So far its going well, then again it's only going on week 3 tomorrow. ...

joyfulheart - Thanks for taking the time to do that for me! I think she'd find those words on the easy side...but I can always beef that up a bit for her if needed. I don't mind reinforcing what she knows, and you are so right about what the poems bring into the mix. I hadn't thought about that. I t...

First, I am just now selecting our levels.... But, what I can say after over 9 years researching homeschooling materials...and 7 years of homeschooling...is this: Lots of books can be used at multiple levels. It depends whether or not you have an independent reader, or are doing read alouds. It depe...

She has chosen....Bigger! It made it easy to chose when she found out she'd be getting Preparing the following year - lol. The only overlap or things to work out that I see now, are the poems in FLL...but she loves poetry so I don't see that being hard to juggle. Then, whatever with spelling. Now to...

I plan to use everything in Bigger (or Preparing if that is what I get). I do have my own math and grammar. However, I want the Singapore Math as well just to give a mix with a bit more mental math...nothing overwhelming. Our math is Saxon 5/4...and our grammar is First Language Lessons 4 (it's on p...

Okay - HOD has won...but Bigger or Preparing?

I just did a post here, trying to sort things out... http://www.heartofdakota.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=1023 I talked to dh tonight, did more looking around, searching all 18 pages of posts...and...this is the curriculum our family needs, I'm convinced of that. I did look at the placements, and my u...

Hi Stranger! I read your post before I saw your name, and thought, "This person sounds just like me! I need to talk to her!" Maybe we should talk on the phone and help each other! I have used MOH, MFW and am considering HOD too...I know I cant do all 3! I don't even know if I could do 2. But, I thi...

Re: MFW to HOD

Hello! I just finished our third year of MFW. I used Adventures, ECC and just finished Creation to Greeks. I did not like it as much as the other years. I found some of the books very dry. I loved the fact that the Bible was the spine. That part of it we really enjoyed. But, like I said, the books ...

Can this work? HOD - MOH - WTMish, jumping ship on MFW....

Here's my deal. I jumped over to MFW about 2 years ago after dd#3 was born. We were following t...
