Re: For those who school 4 days a week..?

If you do the younger guides (LHFHG - PHFHG) at 4 days a week they will take 42.5 weeks. LHTH is more like 41 weeks. So when I plan my year, I print out a 1 page calendar that shows the whole school year. I know that there are 52 weeks in the year so I can take roughly 10 weeks or 50 days off not co...

Re: Bigger and DITHOR for 7yo second grade?

You can always start Bigger and get him into the routine of the guide and then add DITHOR several weeks down the road. That way it won't be so many new things all at once.

Julie, your boys look like they are having so much fun. I can't wait to get to the upper guides with my little guy! I'm so excited to be posting here again. We had a great first week with Beyond! I wrote all about it on my blog. http://cherish-each-moment.blogspot.com/2014/01/beyond-little-hearts-we...

Re: What exactly is half speed??

Thanks so much for the breakdown of your day!..that looks great!....if I can ask, how long each day did this take, less than the hour to hour and half suggested? Did you take 2 yrs to do Little Hearts?...and also, you mentioned you did handwriting and fine motor skills daily....was this out of the ...

Re: Spread out LHTH? Or do it twice?

I think either option would work. If you wanted to slow it down and stretch it out, you could just do it 2-3 days a week and then as she gets older and wants more, you can do it more often. If you did this you could probably find some easy stuff online like letter of the week to add in on the other ...

Re: What exactly is half speed??

Most people use it to mean left side, right side. When my son did LHFHG I did it a little differently. My son loves to be read to so this worked great for us. Anyway, this was our schedule: Day 1: Rhyme in Motion - did this daily Reading About History Handwriting/Fine Motor Skills box - we did this ...

Re: Back to HOD

Welcome back! We also came back recently and are loving it! One thing I realized is that when I was doing HOD before, I worried too much that it wasn't enough and kept feeling that I had to add in a ton of stuff. I think adding all the extra stuff added unnecessary stress and ultimately led us to fi...

Re: Placement Advice

I don't have any experience with running multiple guides, but based on what you said I think having them each in their own would work out best. Maybe you could try running the guides at half speed till you get into the swing of things and then step your oldest up to full speed, keeping the youngers ...

Re: Why don't all guides use Apologia??

I'm not sure why Carrie doesn't schedule the apologia guides in the early years, but I would guess it may be because it would be harder for younger kids to grasp. We are using Apologia (we started it before HOD) this year and we love it. However, my son is in 3rd grade and loves science and there ar...

Re: First Day Fiasco

Sorry your first day was so crazy! I agree with the others. With everything else you have going on, half speed is probably a good plan till you get into the swing of things. Just keep moving forward and I'm sure you guys will get a good rhythm going soon.

Awesome First Day with Beyond!!!

My son and I were supposed to start yesterday, but it snowed so I let him have the day off. He spent it outside sledding with the neighbors. So today was our first official day back with HOD. We both loved it! I am so glad to be back! I know it was only the first day so some of it is the newness, bu...
