Re: Placement Questions and Emerging Readers

Thank you for your advice! We ended up ordering the emerging readers (all of them) and started today. I did decide to skip the Bible readings since we own that Bible and my son has already read the whole thing several times (plus we are in LHFHG so have already gone over these stories in addition to...

Re: Placement Questions and Emerging Readers

Thank you both. That is helpful. As far as the writing goes, would you buy the next basic italic book then for next year as well as doing the copywork in Beyond? I'm just surprised it isn't scheduled as an option since in LHFHG it says Book A or B. If you do Book A, you would still need to do Book B...

Placement Questions and Emerging Readers

Hi, We are in the middle of our first HOD year. My son just turned 6 in December and is doing LHFHG for Kindergarten. It has been going really well and we both enjoy it a lot. While I love a good boxed curriculum with everything planned out for me, I found out pretty quickly that we would have to ma...

Re: LHFHG & Beyond Placement Help!

Thank you, that is helpful!! Now I'm just wondering if I should go ahead and do LHFHG over 2 years starting the next guides at an older age or doing LHFHG over a year and a half (doing close to 3 guides in 4 years) and switching to Beyond then... Hmm... Decisions, decisions. Either way I'm excited t...

Re: LHFHG & Beyond Placement Help!

Oh, one more question. If I do take LHFHG over 18 months, would you get more advanced math books part way through? What about the science and history, etc. Would you go to the 1st grade materials half way through those 18 months or just stick with the K materials? I've heard the science for K is bet...

Re: LHFHG & Beyond Placement Help!

Aww, thank you so much for your helpful response! It's good to hear of others who are being flexible with the curriculum and figuring out what works for them! As for the open-ended questions, my son has NOT been able to do this until just recently, and only when it's something that really interests ...

LHFHG & Beyond Placement Help!

Hi, I have a 5.5 year old and was planning on starting LHFHG for Kindergarten this year (with the K options), starting this summer and doing year-round schooling. I had planned to do 4 days a week with breaks here and there throughout the year, including taking the month of June off between school "...

Re: Reading/LA Program in the Younger Years

Okay, I think I understand. But I've heard something about emerging readers? Is that for after the 2nd grade level once they are done with phonics? I would like to stick with the program I found and researched, so I guess I will use that all the way through. Thanks!

Re: HOD with two or more guides

Thank you! Can you tell me when the guides start with 4 day units? The LHFHG are 5 day units, correct?

Re: HOD with two or more guides

Thank you! That's very helpful to know. I actually love teaching one-on-one and doing schoolwork with my kids, but I don't want to feel overwhelmed like we are spending the ENTIRE day on school between the different guides. Sounds like it is doable, though, with some practice and scheduling :)

Reading/LA Program in the Younger Years

Hi, I am planning on starting my almost 5 year old son on a simple phonics program this year gently, as he has shown great interest in learning to read now. We won't be starting LHFHG until next summer/fall when he is 5.5. This program we are planning on doing will probably be used through next year...

HOD with two or more guides

Hi, I'm planning on using LHFHG with my son who will be kindergarten age next year and just thinking about the future with other kids. I have a 2 year old daughter now who has a birthday at the end of Aug (so not sure when she will be going into kindergarten since she is right near the cut off date)...
