Such happy smiles! :) We're in the S. Hemisphere so we were schooling last week too.. I haven't written up our week, but I enjoyed reading about yours. :)

Re: Won't be finished with MtMM in time for High School.

Well.. here's my limited experience. When I started looking at HOD for my youngest I knew he'd be using Res to Ref & that he'd be in 7th. I did have concerns so I emailed HOD & got a lovely, very detailed, response back. MTMM can be used for 9th is the short version, there are extensions & if you lo...

Re: Dual Enrollment Vs. HOD all the way?

Take this with a grain of salt because as an Expat we don't have the same access to things as those who are in the states do.. I do hear a lot about dual enrolment, CLEP, & more amongst high school homeschoolers, & for some families it works well. Others not so much. I do hear you on the idea of hav...

Re: Spelling Woes

We do not have natural spellers in our home. We've tried many programmes, but the best was Sequential Spelling. :)

Re: Understanding the differences between HOD and Sonlight

I've used both. In fact, I have a high schooler who is leaving Sonlight for HOD. Sonlight is a literature based curriculum, but that's all it offers. The questions in the guides are not deep through provoking questions, there is no literary analysis happening, & I wouldn't call their Bible books fai...

Re: Week In Review May 8 - 12

Wendy Hooray on making it halfway! I always feel it's a huge accomplishment to make it to the midway point of our curriculum. I'm excited to know that the halfway point is a bit less with HOD than our previous curriculum. Tara I always love seeing your updates, & wow on that Wario pencil holder. To...

Week In Review May 8 - 12

Another lovely week under our belts. My 13 year old is very.. lenient to tell us his feelings at times. He's not one to say, "Oh I LOVED that.." or "Oh that really scared me.." He's the one who gets wiggly in all those emotional moments in films. So while I've really had a good feeling about how he ...

Re: Gushing A Bit..

Thanks, Crayola Air Drying Clay was recommended to us as well. It is GF in our country {not USA} but I haven't made it up the coast to the only shop I'm aware of that carries it. I really should though! :)

Gushing A Bit..

We decided to switch to HOD midway through this year. We live in Australia & generally follow a Jan-Nov school year with Dec off & parts of January off {half give or take} but as I'm American {hubby is Australian} the chatter of moving back to the USA came up & we switched ourselves back to the US s...

Re: Singapore vs. Horizons and confusing guide lineup

FWIW, we use Math U See even though it's not mentioned in the HOD guide. It works for us & we're happy with it. I have a child who needs to hear, see, & know all the whys in order to grasp something & MUS really hits all of those for him. When he was just starting out the manipulatives were a huge h...

Aww, warmer weather.. We're headed into the colder darker time of the year where we are.

Oh, my what a beautiful drawing of the coliseum! The boys have an Uncle over that way so they were keen to tell him all the places he should visit so they could live through his photos. ;)

Week In Review May 1 - May 5

Our second lovely week with HOD's Res to Ref. There are so many aspects about HOD that I love, & there are a few I was worried about my boy with but he's met them all very well. After a cold evening at the hockey field we were curled up with cocoa on the sofa Thursday evening when I quietly said, "S...
