Re: HOD Science

It sounds interesting. I went on Amazon but couldn't locate the book. I'll have to search elsewhere.

Thanks for the title.

HOD Science

Don't you love it when your child tells you they don't like a certain subject, then it becomes their favorite? That's what happened this year in RestoRef science. My dd dreaded the astronomy book in the beginning and now she loves it. Last night she told me she would write a bunch of papers on the p...

Re: Do you feel like... (olders vs youngers)

Yes, my youngers seem to race through their guides. My 3rd grader is doing bigger and rips right through it, but I think it's because I've done the guide before. When I did the program a couple of years ago with older children, it seemed to take a long time. Agreeing with another poster that with my...

Re: Coming Back

I'm delighted for you both. I can't imagine doing my own thing, so bravo to you for trying. I have too many children and I need the structure the manuals provide. At the end of the year, I just collapse and praise God and exclaim, "We did it!"

What manual will your son be doing?

Common Core

I dread the fact that this is more than likely going to be implemented in our state.

I was hoping Carrie would consider addressing this issue as it relates to a HOD style education.

thank you.

For CTC and Sound of Music Fans...

We are studying Turkey in a Child's Geography, Explore the Holy Land, and read about the whirling dirvishes. I thought, whirling dirvishes, where have I heard that before? After I read the lesson, my dd said whirling dirvishes is from a song. So we're racking our brains, trying to figure it out. I d...

So cool, my dd independent science research project

Yesterday, we finished reading Reddy Fox (BOO HOO, my fifth and last!!!) and we were talking about dens and where foxes live. My daughter, age 8 currently doing BHFHG, was listening in. Later that day, she handed me a paper she had illustrated. She drew a map showing 20 of the Burgess characters and...

A joyful moment

I have combined my oldest 3 since LHFHG, and we started CTC this fall. I've tried to separate my first born a few times, but was unsuccessful for various reasons, mostly time constraints. Well, one month into it, the kids were complaining about having to share books and I finally decided to try sepa...

I just have to say it, we're loving CTC

I had no idea what we were in for when we started Creation to Christ this week. I was so nervous about the kids not being able to handle the assigned readings and the independence of the program. Let me tell you, CTC is just fabulous and the resources are incredible! We will probably need to slow do...

For anyone doing CTC -- a question

Hi ladies,

Our family is out of town and I don't have access to our homeschool materials. Could anyone be so kind and tell me how many weeks we use the Genesis Discovering our Roots book -- maybe the first 8 weeks or so?

Thank you!

Re: Our year with CTC is almost done! The best so far!

Way to go! I'm glad your family had a good year.

We are almost done with Preparing, and will do CTC this fall. I can't wait. I have looked forward to that guide since it was introduced many years ago. My kids love HOD.

Re: Finish guides in one year??

We have been doing HOD for about four years now. We have always managed to finish our guide at the end of the school year. Besides, by the end of the year, we've mastered the skill level and we're ready to move on.

Thanks for the link -- WOW.

I'll have to print that off and review it from time to time as a reminder. Thanks for posting that.

Re: What is the writing like in CTC

LynnH,

Thanks for verifying the info in WWTB. My oldest will be doing R&S 5 as well.

Good to know. I just want to see some progression in the area of writing. I was starting to get a little concerned.

Thanks.
