Re: Ok Girls, what are you thinking about doing NEXT year!
We'll be finishing our current programs in July so likely will begin our new "year" in August. The girls will be using CtC with the extension package. They will also begin R&S4 and continue with DITHOR 3x per week. One will be using Singapore 5A/5B and the other will either be continuing 4A/4B or po...

Re: I just want to say...,
We too have so many of those kind of days with HOD.. aren't we blessed?
What week of Beyond are you on, Mary? We also had some major interruptions, so we are just on week 15.

Re: Igniting your Writing
We have found the creative writing in Preparing to be enough for the age group (8-10). I, too, had considered adding this, but I am so glad that we didn't.

Re: Changing to HOD: Help me figure out where to place my clan?
Hi Christa, and welcome! I want to first echo what the previous poster said about checking the placement chart. I found it to be extremely accurate when I first placed my dc's into their HOD programs. Just from the brief description you gave, my first instinct would be for you to use Bigger with the...

Further proof that HOD promotes retention...
Hi everyone! I've really missed this board, as we've had extremely limited access this past while.. to make a loooong story short, we went back to Canada to renew my husband's work visa (as we do each year), and our 10-day trip turned into a 3-month trip when the US border wouldn't let us back in (n...

Re: Help Me Decide What is Best, Please!
Absolutley do-able and very little stress! We are using both of those now, and still get everything done in 4 hrs (at the very most).
BTW, I think Beyond works perfectly for a 2nd grader!

Re: Covering writing skills in upcoming HOD guides
LOVE your choices, Carrie! I had been wanting to use Igniting Your Writing with my girls, but there has no place for it up until now.. so glad to hear that we can likely look forward to them in the future! I have also heard so many great things about Story Starters. Thanks again for all of your hard...

Re: Preparing Unit 1 - Day 2 Language Arts
What is confusing to me is on other days there is a separate poetry block and on this day there is not, so I thought maybe there was an overlap. Hi Florence, One day per unit the poetry is used as a springboard for a creative writing assignment, which is why it's incorporated into the LA box. You'l...

Re: Do You Use Any Singapore Supplements?
To my understanding, the activities go along with the assigned portions of Earlybird. The activites that go with 1A/1B are in the Beyond manual. As to your second question, that's why we decided to use the supplemental books the way we do. Many dcs do not need as much review as mine do, though! I fi...

Re: Do You Use Any Singapore Supplements?
Hi Paige! I was so happy to "see" you when you first arrived at these boards.. it's funny how many of us have tried similar things and have ended up here! Anyway do you recommend that I wait until he begins 2A to start the CWP 1 that I have? I hesitate to make a blanket recommendation on when to sta...

Re: Do You Use Any Singapore Supplements?
Hi Shannon! Let me preface by saying that you do not NEED to use any of the supplemental books for Singapore.. Carrie has done a magnificent job of scheduling the workbooks in consistent, bite-sized portions. :) However, our family is on the "mathy" side, so what we do is.. Beginning in Level 2, we ...

Re: What Week are you on/What are your holiday plans?
I had planned to finish Unit 13 of Beyond (First Thanksgiving) the week before the holiday and then take a two week break, but it looks like we'll actually only finish up until Unit 12. Once upon a time that would've driven me crazy! So we'll just stop at Unit 12 of both programs, take two wee...
