Hi Anne! I'm a list maker too! I'd have to dig around on here, but somewhere awhile back I posted a list similar to yours. I still have the original list I scribbled on scrap paper of the things I wanted to cover for our next year. We're working through Beyond, and I wasn't sure at the time if we sh...

Hi Tiffanie! My dgs has about the same birthday/cutoff situation as your son has. He's 7 now, and actually could be entering 3rd grade this next year, based on the birthday/cutoff for this area. I actually filled out the forms for K when he was 5, then instantly regretted it. I think that as my litt...

We have kind of always enjoyed poetry. I love to read it at bedtime, as it's a soothing thing to hear. We've read through A Child's Garden of Verses , and so far that's really been a favorite. I do think that it's possibly because of our love of poetry that my child seems to enjoy memorizing the poe...

Okay, I'll join in... I haven't posted in awhile, but this topic has really been on my heart lately. I have to say (and my dh would also say too) that it is just priceless when my little guy, out of the blue in the evenings or just anytime, starts singing his memory verses from Hide 'em in Your Hear...

I think however it works for you is what is best. The little boxes are neat because they can be done as you can work them in. Sometimes it's around laundry, playtime, or cooking or whatever--but we usually get them all in. Looks fine to me, and it looks like you're already instilling a love of learn...

Wow, that's great advice Melanie! I hadn't even thought of DITHOR in that way, but you're right on target. That really would be a great timesaver to have just the one guide, and work with it at the different ages with one genre. Hope some of this is helping you, Colleen. We're trying to help simplif...

That looks fine. I don't use a separate reading program with my 7/o. I actually taught him to read using word families on note cards, and now we're just going over phonograms that are used in the Writing Road to Reading. I am not using that program as written, but I am trying to tie it into the spel...

The sample looks great! I can't wait either, and I've already set up a box for Preparing so that I can pull a few of the readers I have on hand and add as I go. I'll probably go on and order the manual, as I love reading through to see what lies ahead--I was always one to open a library book to the ...

Hi Colleen! I think I remember you from FIAR--right? You have the neatest family, and I know you truly are a very busy mom. We switched from FIAR to HOD, though we still do a FIAR unit in the afternoons as time allows. I love how Carrie has everything laid out for us to follow in the manuals. It's r...

Hello, and welcome to the HOD boards! I am using Beyond with my 7 y/o at present, but I do have the teacher's guide for Bigger also. I have spent a few evenings reading through the Bigger guide, and I just have to say, that's a great program! I love how everything is tied together, and I love the li...

Lee Ann, I know how you feel. Believe me, I've had days when I prayed just to even get through it! I do know that the Omega-3 supplement is helping, and we also use a digestive enzyme supplement too. I also forgot to say that I watch out for anything with "high fructose corn syrup" in the ingredient...

I'm glad this was asked because I'm wondering the same thing. I have been reading through my copy of Bigger over the last week or so, and I noticed the schedule for reading through the extension pack in the back of the book. I am really interested in the science add on, as that will definitely appea...

Anxious to see Preparing
I guess we all really are, aren't we? I've spent the last several days and evenings reading through the Bigger manual, and I'm just blown away by how deep the program is. It is going to be such a special time for us to work through that program. Now we are only moving along in Beyond, but I a...
