I lean more towards seeing where your kids are in language and math, rather than the time period studied. I am currently using Bigger Hearts for His Glory with an 8 and soon to be 10 year old, and I am finding it is quite enough work for them! I am using Rod and Staff English 2 with both of them, an...

Thanks very much for your reply. I also appreciate the godly content and the ready-to-go lessons. With my younger daughter in grade 3, I do not make her do all the written work on paper, sometimes she does most orally or a little on the white board (somehow not writing in a notebook seems to help he...

Another question for Carrie

I was just wondering if you were planning on using the next level of Rod & Staff for English in your upcoming curriculum. My girls are learning well with the grade 2 book, though they don't find it very interesting.

Well, cost is always a factor with me in general, but in the case of read-alouds I look for the "best" books, which often doesn't mean "best-priced". I have my ways of getting around that, in other words, buying them used or looking for them at the library, if I find I cannot afford full price.

This has been a good thread for me. I went to bed a little earlier last night, and will try to make it a little earlier tonight. I even worked out a more realistic schedule, which we followed today and got a lot more done in less time. I guess I've just been getting sloppy lately. Here's what we did...

I'm just like that-too many late nights. I have a theoretical schedule on paper, but I haven't stuck with it.
Once we get going, though, school doesn't take too much time, but I feel like the day is gone. I'd like to stick to the schedule and get done before noon!

Snow Treasure, by Marie McSwigan. I didn't think my girls would care for this book, published in 1942, but they are really enjoying it! :D

bigger hearts

Hi-I'm using Bigger Hearts with a 3rd and 4th grader. My 4th grader is a little behind in reading but loves to write, so she is quick with the writing assignments and does them all very well, but sometimes we takes turns reading to each other for the reading assignments. As for my 3rd grader, she is...

I love your signature -Dyslexics of the world untie! Funny how at first glance my brain turned that word into unite, until I looked again. My big brother is dyslexic, my son is dysgraphic. You made me smile :)

adding extra stuff

Me? Not a thing! At least, not day to day. However, on the few days that things have interrupted our regularly scheduled schooling (like me needing to go to the doctor), I may break out the workbooks/activity books, or assign extra reading, or pop in an educational DVD.

Hi!

I'm a first-time Heart of Dakota user, enjoying Bigger Hearts For His Glory with my two youngest daughters. Not only is the curriculum so easy to use for me and for them, but Carrie has been a blessing with useful advice even while I was only considering using BH.
Nice to meet you all!

preparing hearts for his glory

Boy am I looking forward to this one being completed :D Personally, I would be happy if you wrote it with historical read-alouds-in my family, historical literature always helps bring history to life and embeds it in our memories. It would be so helpful to have that written into the curriculum. As f...

I couldn't have said it any better than the previous poster! I have been using this for 1 month also with my girls grade 3 and 4. We are having the best school days ever, and the "extension" books provide just the right challenge for my 4th grader, while the curriculum "as is" is perfect for my 3rd ...
