Re: Placement help 4th grader 9 1/2 yr.old

You've had some awesome responses! It has helped me too, just confirmation that I made the right choice for my little guy. I love that we have so many choices, and can make them fit each child. What are you leaning towards now? You may have mentioned it earlier, are you starting him now in whichever...

Re: Placement help 4th grader 9 1/2 yr.old

I thought I would add in my thoughts, as I was in your exact shoes a week or two ago! My son is an exact replica of yours! 9.5 yo going into 4th, strong reader, reluctant writer, just learning cursive etc. I went back and forth between Bigger and Preparing as well. My best friend's son also is the e...

Re: How do I manage different levels with littles?

HI! I have used FIAR and LOVE it! We still row books every few weeks and my boys are almost 7 & 9! :D That would be a great option. Another thing you can do for the 3.5 yo is to buy the Rod and Staff preschool workbooks (starts with A and goes through J now, I think) and have her do those. That's wh...

Bible Version Help

HI! I am looking for help with Bible verses and which version to use with my son in Bigger Hearts. I personally use the NKJV, but my 9 yo has the NiRV version. I'm not sure which version I should have him memorize for his verses. Reading between the two, the NiRV really can take on a different meani...

Re: Help!! Trying to finalize my plan

You have been given such great help!! I wanted to chime in because I have JUST walked this same path a couple weeks ago with my 7 & 9yo sons! I am doing Little Hearts, just started! With my 7 year old son who places in Little Hearts/Beyond, but I went with Little hearts instead, and I am SO glad tha...

Re: Stuggling to sound words out phonetically

I have had great results with Rod and Staff LA!! It is very well priced, like $6/book or so. Once you get those phonics and decoding mastered, then you're set! I put my 9 yo/3rd grader in Rod and Staff grade 2 after Christmas, just to back track and make sure that we've covered all phonics. His read...

Re: Placement for two kids

I am at the same fork in the road with my almost 10 year old. He sounds like he is exactly where your son is! I found a blog called monarch room, and she had pictures posted of the writing required in bigger hearts and preparing! That was SO helpful, as I talked yesterday on the phone with Julie fro...

Writing Help/placing ?

HI there....I am still on the fence about which guide to put my almost 10 yo into...after talking it over with my hubby this weekend, he leans towards putting him into Preparing and expecting more out of him rather than doing Bigger and not expecting as much. He can actually do the handwriting, it's...

Re: Sketchbook

There is a sweet family company called Miller Pads and Paper, I think that's the correct name. They have great sketch books that have hardbacks and have designs or plain. They are very reasonably priced. That may be an option to look into as well. I've used them with my littles since kindy.

Re: Trying to decide on curriculum

I understand purchasing 2-3 full guides can be a deterrent, especially when it wasn't part of your budget. You could purchase the guide and books for your older two and combine them into Bigger with the extensions for the oldest. I have an almost 10 yo son that I'm about to purchase Bigger for too. ...

Re: Placement for sons

That is SO helpful!! Thank you ladies!!! I do not think that he would be ready for bigger at all next year. My 9 yo going on 10 is just now ready for bigger, though the writing is still going to be a struggle. Those little boys' hands just don't develop as quickly as the girls. I've held him off and...

Nature Study & music question

HI! I have a question about the younger guides: LHFHG, BLHFG & BHFHG. Is nature study included in these guides at all? Like growing bean sprouts, bird study or nature walks etc? Also, I see that hymns are integrated, but is there any introduction to artists, composers or classical music? I am just w...

Re: Placement for sons

That is great advice! Thank you! I have one more question...the spelling lists in Beyond, are those simple 3 letter words? Also, is the copywork fairly short? Like a few words? That may be the deciding factor for which guide I should go with. Everything else in Beyond looks like great fit, just wond...
