"Boyhood and Beyond" Advise

Hi Ladies....I have a son that just turned 10. We are actually doing Bigger this fall and possible starting Preparing in the Spring, so age-wise we are behind in curriculums for the suggested age ranges. I am wondering when I should begin the "Boyhood and Beyond" book with my son? I know I have to g...

Re: Science in Bigger for a 5th grader?

I am also using Bigger for my 10 yo son for his 4th grade year. I am adding in Rod and Staff science for him. The grades 3 & 4 actually cover oceans and marine life, I think. I chose grade 3 for my son, but on their site they have samples that you can look at to decide which is best. The teacher's m...

Re: A Huge THANK YOU To You

This was so sweet of you to write! I absolutely agree with you. It is so beautiful to know that so many mamas love the Lord and are spending their lives giving to Him and dedicating their lives to the ministry of raising the next generation to Know and Love Him!! It's so exciting! When the world get...

Re: Confused by HOD phonics & need reading help

I wanted to add in to the discussion: my 9 yo has been doing R&S grade 2 this past year for 3rd grade. He is a good reader, but I felt that we needed to brush up on and make sure we'd covered all our bases. R & S is a bit advanced IMHO, so grade 2 was a perfect fit! It also really helped my son's ha...

Re: Looking for FUN Back to School ideas

We always take their picture their first day of each boy holding a mini chalkboard with his grade written on it! We introduce a new puppet for circle time each year, that's always fun because it's a surprise!

Re: DD Wants Public School

I love this thread! I have learned so much from all the amazing posts from everyone. I had a thought that I wanted to add, though it's just an extension about wanting to be a light. I remember being around your daughter's age, and that seems to be when my spiritual giftings began to wake up in a sen...

Re: Uncomfortable with the choices I've made...

We've moved 3 times in the last three years, so I can relate to your situation!! For a few seasons, I was just doing the 3 Rs and reading Bible stories and a good read aloud daily, all cuddled up with a boy on either side of me, and those are treasured times!! We did this almost all last year while ...

Re: Reassurance/thoughts on placement

I thought I would add in another voice....I am using Little Hearts for a very bright 7yo son. I don't feel that he will be ready for Bigger at 8 if he did Beyond this year, so I chose Little hearts. What I am doing that may be helpful in beefing up is, I have scheduled in the next Rod and Staff work...

Re: BLHFHG Science question

MeInKansas...thank you so much! That info is very helpful! I didn't realize that I could bypass the book or that the science text ties more into history. Now I'm not so worried. I can do the science experiments in Beyond and be right on task! :D Farmfamily...No, you didn't miss anything. I am using ...

BLHFHG Science question

I am using Little hearts using God's Wonderful Works for the science, and following the schedule in the back of the manual. What will I use next year with Beyond for his science? All I saw listed on the website is God's Wonderful Works.

Re: Looking for placement reassurance (6 & 8 yrs)

Maybe you could print out the first week sample for each of the guides....there are download links on the site for each guide. That's what I did when I was choosing. I can't advise you, but I will share what I chose for my 7 & 9(almost 10) yo boys: Little Hearts adding rod and staff grade 2 science,...

Re: Praise for the WG guide

Thank you so much for sharing this! My boys are just entering 2 & 4th, and it's really hard for me to get a layout or idea of where we are going. Being a planner, I like to see the whole picture, but it's so hard with homeschooling if you're not writing your own curriculum (IMHO). Your post has give...

Re: Curriculum choice dilemma

I also researched Classical vs. CM. What I personally found was that CM had a true love for children as persons. Her main goal was to lead them to Lord and teach them how to learn, she emphasized that our job is to love them, form their character based on the Bible, pray for them, and introduce them...

Re: OT: Homeschooling a child who does not want to homeschoo

've been surprised by how hard it was for me! I've wanted to bring her back since we made the decision to send her last summer! I've felt all along that God wanted this for us, and prayed that he would align my husband's and my convictions with His will, and felt sure that He answered that and led ...

Re: OT: Homeschooling a child who does not want to homeschoo

I will be praying for you too! I have no experience ini this, but this is what came to mind in what I would say to my boys: One thing you could really emphasize is how dear she is to you, and that you want this time to walk alongside her, that you adore the time with her and God wants her home too! ...
