Re: What to do after The Reading Lesson???
Thank you Stephanie and Carrie for your suggestions! I especially like the idea of getting a special "box" with some easier books that he can read without frustration. Our library here is pretty small and unfortunately they do not have very many options for beginner readers but I will start there an...

What to do after The Reading Lesson???
My ds 6 is 4 pages from finishing TRL and we are so excited! However he still has struggles with reading and I'm not sure about having him move into the ER set just yet. He gets frustrated REALLY easily when he has to sound out a word and gets it wrong, then he just starts randomly guessing words th...

Re: LHFHG Burgess Books Substitution?
Thank you April for your encouraging post! Its good to know I'm not all alone...I was beginning to wonder lol. I agree with everything you said. Thank you for confirming what I have been feeling. I'm still not certain what to do but it is good to know that there is at least one other person that sha...

Re: LHFHG Burgess Books Substitution?
Thank you for your input ladies. We have actually read all of Reddy Fox and are almost finished with Peter Cottontail. It is a decision I will have to ponder about some more. I guess since there is so much teaching I have to do daily with my own dc regarding these issues because of our own sinful na...

LHFHG Burgess Books Substitution?
I want to say that I LOVE HOD and my dc are learning so much! I have however been thinking lately about substituting the Burgess Books for storytime with something else that displays the character I am trying to instill in my dc. While I like that the TM has teaching that counters some of what is re...

Re: Is it time to uncombine?
I think your plan to keep them in the same guide but at different speeds is excellent. I have seen that very plan recommended here several times and it sounds like it would work well for your children

Re: LHFHG Edible Playdough Substitution???
We just did this activity and I found a recipe online for chocolate edible playdough that worked perfect and was delicious! My kids really enjoyed this activity and so did I. I love the fact that the activities with HOD are easy to do and flexible enough to tweak if necessary. Thank you HOD!!!

LHFHG Edible Playdough Substitution???
We are on unit 5 in LHFHG and we are supposed to make edible playdough with peanut butter in two days. Two of my children have peanut allergies and I was wondering if anyone else out there substituted the peanut butter for something else. This sounds so fun and I don't want my kiddos to miss this ac...

LHFHG Science Question
In LHFHG Science, are you supposed to do the hands on activity listed in the TM AND the ones listed in the Science book? For instance, today Carrie had a hands on activity with cotton balls, then when we read in the book there was also another activity involving cotton balls. We did both because my ...

Re: Needing Some Help
This is just my second year with HOD but I agree 100% with what Rice said. If it were me, I'd place him in Little Hearts (which is so fun by the way!) and work on his reading and math skills and give him another year before heading into Beyond. I think the easier work load in History, Science, and B...

Thank you everyone for your replies! I've been going over the questions and words to know briefly but informally so I'll continue to do that as time allows since several of you seem to do the same thing

Ok thank you! I wasn't sure because the review pages are listed within the page ranges Carrie gives in the guide each day.

History for Little Pilgrims question
Are we supposed to have our dc complete the reviews at the end of each chapter like Words to Know, Something to Do, and Unit Review? I've been going over some of it orally but that's about it. Is this ok or are we supposed to do EVERYTHING listed on the review page? Thanks!
