Re: Anyone else used or using Bigger with a 7 year old?
Good advice here! I appreciate the steps Julie gave. I wish I'd have approached it that way last year!

Re: OT, maybe? I may be a control freak!
I agree with the others. Coming from the perspective of my oldest now being almost 10... enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!!! There is sooo much time for formal learning, so keep it loose and fun at 4 1/2. EVEN IF THEY ARE SUPER SMART. :D LHTH certainly does keep it fun and SHORT. So, if you are wanting more str...

Re: Repeating Math
Carrie, I appreciate your post, too, though I didn't ask the question. It's helping me to process my decision to switch over to Singapore. Plus, I totally have experienced what you said. I took a summer "off" with 1st ds who was having trouble mastering his addition and subtractions facts. Well, by ...

Re: Math Change?
Thanks, Julie. I had started to give my dd the 2B test (I think), and she couldn't do the mental math parts! :? And floundered on some other parts I thought she'd know how to do. Somewhat to be expected since I never had her do math that way before. So, it was quickly apparent that we do need to bac...

Singapore... one more question!
OK, another Singapore question... when the math problems are presented horizontally in the workbook, does that mean the child is supposed to figure them out mentally? I know Singapore is big on mental math, and there doesn't appear to be space in the workbook sometimes for working the problem out or...

Re: Math Change?
Tamara, Thanks for your post. I feel like it is giving me "freedom" to be OK with starting at a lower guide than grade level. Not only do I want dd to learn to be a better problem solver, starting at a lower level will give early success, be easy, and perhaps give her a love of math. Part of what ma...

Re: Math Change?
Thanks Corrie! Sounds like we are in a similar place. It encourages me that I shouldn't be concerned if she is working in a level 2 or 3 book heading into 4th grade. After all... I have to remind myself that it is important that she learn the concepts and to not be concerned about what "grade" it is...

Math Change?
Hi, Math question... have any of you switched your child's math program in 4th grade? We've been doing Math U See with my dd since K, and she's midway through the Delta level (single and multiple digit division focus). Here's my dilemma... she is doing well in the program. Get's consistent A's on te...

I've read a lot about it, too. It IS very inspiring. I think HOD captures a lot of it nicely.

Re: Just bought Prepare/LHFHG
I'll be doing both of those guides this fall, too. It's my first REAL year of combining. YIKES! I'm thinking it will be fun. I can't believe I'm already to the point of starting LHFHG with my youngest. I did the guide with his sister and brother 4 years ago, and I CANNOT believe the time has f...

Re: Scheduling Extensions
Hi, We did Bigger with Extensions (just finished, actually!). One thing that helped was having bookmarks for each week with the schedule on them. I just handed my dd a new bookmark each week and she could keep track of her readings herself. I found a file someone had made on some online board, maybe...
