Re: Combining 3 1/2 yr old and 5 yr old

Well last school year we were starting between 8-9am and ending between 2-3pm. Some days we finished later than that and other days earlier. This includes a lunch break/recess and a short time of morning basket(artists study, composer study, Spanish, and Catechism) in addition to the HOD guides. :) ...

Re: Combining 3 1/2 yr old and 5 yr old

If you want to combine them I would have your 5 year old do the K phonics, math, handwriting, and fine motor skills books from LHFHG this year. The 3 year old can continue doing the R&S ABC books that are not used in LHFHG. You could also get LHTH to do with both of them. It is fun and doesn't take ...

Re: I miscalculated math!

I would switch to a different curriculum for her. I don't really know what I would pick - but being in a different math helps her other sisters not see that she is 'past' them so obviously I disagree with this. It sounds like Singapore math is an excellent fit for your dc and I would not switch to ...

Re: Help with phonics

Personally I would get Phonics Pathways and skip ahead in the book to where he is at. :) PP is inexpensive and extremely thorough. My library even has a copy.

Re: advice Using BHFHG for young 7 and old 9yo

From what you have written here I'm really thinking it would be better to do Preparing with your 9 year old and Beyond with the 7 year old. You could possibly combine them in Bigger but it may end p being too easy for the older and too hard for the younger. Running two guides is really doable and yo...

Re: Question for emerging reader list for beyond little hear

I think I'm confused about the question. You can read the ER's at any pace you want they do not need to co-ordinate with the guides units at all. Each student can just read at whatever pace they need to.

Re: Can you do BLHFHG then Bigger over 3 yrs??

Well you can really do it anyway you like but if you are trying to stretch those two guides out then yes you would carry over any extra weeks to the next school year. Just pick up where you left off before summer break. When you finish the guide just start the next.

Re: Can you do BLHFHG then Bigger over 3 yrs??

You can easily just do Beyond and Bigger 4 days a week. You won't be completing units in 1 week this way. You simply do one day at a time and pick up where you left off the next week. Doing this gives you about 9 extra weeks per guide. That would end up being more like 2.5 years for Beyond and Bigge...

Re: Questions on Recommended Items for a 6 and 4 1/2 year ol

The only things you will need two of are the consumable items. Since one is in K and the other 1st you would get the K options for math, handwriting, and fine motor skills for one and the 1st grade for the other. I would just get the K science and use that for both kids. The only other thing you nee...

Re: Is Beyond then Bigger repettitive??

Bigger is not repetitive at all. The focus of Beyond and Bigger are totally different even though they cover a similar time period. Beyond focuses mostly on pilgrims, pioneers, and children in early American history. Bigger covers important historical figures, and events. While in Beyond there are a...

Re: Preparing Question/New to Homeschooling

No supplementation is necessary for Preparing. It is a complete curriculum. Of course you could always add things if it strikes your fancy. ;) Geography is covered once a week. Students learn about and find countries from their history lessons and they also learn Geography terms and concepts i.e. li...

I like Andreola's books. A Charlotte Mason Companion is a nice intro to CM and her fiction books are a fun read. For something a bit deeper I like When Children Love to Learn.

There are many other Burgess books available in the same series. I'm reading the Burgess Bird Book for Children to all of my kids right now and they love it.
