Reading Made Easy vs. Abeka

I'm really looking into coming back to HOD (tried using Beyond but switched fully to Abeka 1st grade) next year for 2nd/3rd grade and for a son in pre-K. My question is after looking at the, Reading Made Easy, vs. Abeka's phonics and reading, RME made my head spin. Does anyone have any experience wi...

Re: Balancing time with friends and school

Hi Candice, You are the sweetest person and knowing you even with a schedule, if we need you, you would drop a schedule in a moment! Ladies, Candice, really is "AWESOME!" I've only been homeschooling for 2 years and every day we seem to tweak our schedules but one thing I'm really learning (it takes...

Re: Holiday Craft Fun

Ooops...I honestly didn't think arts and crafts would qualify as homeschool curriculum. We've used Enchanted before but I was just looking for some fun, new ideas....especially no coloring pages. My boys love to cut, glue, paint, build, etc. but they will quickly run away if given coloring pages to ...

Holiday Craft Fun

My son went to ps for kindergarten and one thing I miss about it was all the fun projects and crafts that related to upcoming holidays. Do any of you use a specific book or site that has great projects for the upcoming holidays? I'm not just talking about Thanksgiving or Christmas but also like Vete...

Re: Any updates on Carrie's family?

That is wonderful news that Carrie's family is doing much better. We went to our Scout meeting this week and one mom said her family had to be in quaritine for 5 days due to their 1 1/2 yr old having whooping cough! Wow, I though that was a thing of the past.

Love,

Re: Scheduling the extras?

What I've done in the past with the boys was left some of the reading for either bath or bed time. Sometimes, I would even read to the boys on a car trip when I plan ahead and my husband is driving! Car trips are even great for listening to the music portion. For my household, if I let my son do the...

Re: Best tips for peace, sanity, or really helpful stuff!

This is a great topic! Let me say first that my oldest is the first one to wake up (usually 6 am sharp), so it's hard to get up before him. That being said, since noone is up, he turns on tv and it's sometimes hard to get the tv turned off after that (little 3 yr old bro. wants to watch too!). I cou...

Re: Cursive Question

My son, who is 6, starting using Abekas cursive program this year. To give you a short background on his writing, he struggled in preschool, when his classmates were doing well. By the 2nd half of kindergarten, he had really nice penmanship (I hovered and would make him work hard at it...needless to...

Re: Is it enough?

Thank you so very, very much to all of you for your comments and suggestions! I'm ready to restart HOD and supplement with Abekas phonics and math! I just need to receive the "peace" that Gods given me to homeschool and like one of you mentioned, stop comparing with other homeschoolers (oh my goodne...

Re: Is it enough?

Sorry about posting in the wrong area the first time, Carrie! Thank you for also posting the previous discussion as well as all the replies here! I think until my kids are doing well in college, I'll never rest easy with homeschooling...sure wish I could though!

Is it enough?

In January, I ordered BLHFHG, for my 6 yr old son. He had previously attended Kindergarten the year before but ended up with anxiety issues when it came time for recess. Anyways, it just seemed to simple and I felt like we weren't doing "enough" school. Before this we were signed up with K12 curricu...
