Re: Singapore vs. Horizons and confusing guide lineup

So with these 5 day guides....if you do them 4 days a week and you go a whole typical school year (September-mid May) and then you have to finish up the last couple weeks of the guide in the following fall. Do you then just go to the next level when you're done? Even if it's like in the middle of O...

Re: Singapore vs. Horizons and confusing guide lineup

I understand you're concerns over the guide lineup, but if I may share a few thoughts on this. ;) The most important thing to ensure success for your children is that they are correctly placed in a guide that they fit well in. This will ensure success, confidence building, and appropriate challenge ...

Re: LOVE Heart of Dakota SO MUCH!!!

This is so good to hear! Thank you for the encouragement as I'm pretty much on the other end of the homeschool journey. I am new to HOD and will start this fall. So so so excited for this! My stuff comes tomorrow and I can hardly wait! Question: Have you used the HOD math suggestion (Singapore)? I ...

LOVE Heart of Dakota SO MUCH!!!

Our family has just journeyed through a two year period of some pretty tough trials, which included a job change for dh, a pretty severe broken leg for one dd resulting in two surgeries and many months of physical therapy, selling our house, buying our new house, and moving to a new town. I wasn't a...

Re: Book Shop

I can't find the Book Shop, either. Must be due to recent website changes. ;) All I'm finding for DITHOR books is this: http://www.heartofdakota.com/drawn-into-optional.php You might be able to access the reading levels by typing that particular book title in the search bar. Hope you can find what y...

Re: Updates for Beefing up guides

Possibly doing a search for beefing up MTMM might turn up some helpful posts. Otherwise, there is a lot of posts about MTMM if you click on 'board index' at the top left of your screen. Then scroll down past Main Board and Week in Review and you should find one for MTMM. Click on that and it will op...

Re: Spiral Bound Guides???

I actually have a spiral binding machine, which has been a huge blessing in our homeschool, however, I've not spiral bound my guides. I've found they hold up extremely well with the original binding. After several years of different kids using them, I do cover them in laminating film (much like cont...

Re: Pride and Prejudice gone from WG?

Good question! :D With the World Geography guide it is very easy to switch out Pride and Prejudice with Persuasion if desired by simply dividing the number of pages in Persuasion over the number of days Pride and Prejudice is scheduled. This wouldn't work well for literature in any of the other hig...

Re: Pride and Prejudice gone from WG?

We use Anne of Green Gables in CTC in the girl pack. The Anne books can stand on their own, but if your daughter hasn't read of Anne of Green Gables it is well worth reading! :D Anne of Avonlea includes a more grown-up Anne with all of the thoughts of an older teen/young lady. So, it works great fo...

Re: Pride and Prejudice gone from WG?

I'm interested in this too, as my next child to use WG, will be using the girl's literature package. The list has more changes than just P&P though. In my WG guidebook, it lists A Lantern in Her Hand, Pride and Predjudice, Papa's Wife, The Importance of Being Earnest, and Little Women. However, on t...

Re: Tell me I'm crazy..

He's nearly at the end of his first week. The first 2 days {nothing to do with HOD} were rough, but his third day was lovely & peaceful. Funny thing is, even after a rough 2nd day when asked he said he enjoyed his new school & couldn't think of any part he didn't like. Which is high praise from thi...

Re: Rod and Staff Teacher's Guides

I too, can always usually tell whether my children got the right answers when looking over their assignments, but I LOVE having the teacher's guide to use. I read the lesson (at that level, anyway) to my child, while they follow along in their copy. R&S teacher's guides also have a wonderful section...

Re: Tell me I'm crazy..

If you want to write, highlight or do whatever to your guide, then by all means...do it!! :) It's yours to do with as you please. Our guides are well loved and some are starting to look a little ragged, but written in or not, it's a great curriculum! :D We all have such different and unique ways to ...

[/quote] Thank you so much for your advice and encouragement. I was talking with a friend today who struggles with the same thing, and I came to the conclusion that the real problem in all of this is me! I can get a schedule on paper that works fine, but I am unable to follow through because of my f...

Re: Struggling checking their work...suggestions?

I completely understand where you're coming from. ;) Once my fifth little student joined the group, there was officially a lot to remember and juggle each day. I simply can't keep it all straight without a little help. I've read about how other moms use their guidebook as a plan book and check thing...
