Re: Questioning separate guides too (but didn't want to hi-jack

I do think my ds 7 (eight in June) would be able to handle Bigger. My dd has done all of Preparing up to Unit 22 and that is my problem with trying to cycle her back through it later. I'm assuming, since she is working in Preparing and will be finishing it around the first week of August, that she w...

Re: What do you do on the 5th day?

LynnH.....more info on how you set up the volunteering would be great! Did you just contact them and ask or is it something they already had in place? I know my daughter would love to do something like that. You can pm me if you would rather. Thanks so much!

Re: What do you do on the 5th day?

Our '5th' day is actually mid-week...our children go to a sports class all morning on Wednesdays so they actually usually do not do the book work on those days. Summer is coming up (we school year-round) so they will probably be working on at least some Wednesdays since the class will be over until ...

Just wanted to bump this up, as I am still pondering and would welcome more ideas, and any answers to my other questions. Thanks so much!

Re: New and Deciding

Have you checked out the placement chart yet? it is usually a great help in figuring out where your child would fit best. Here's a link: http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php There are extensions available too (for all the guides beginning with Bigger....), if you think you want the co...

Re: What do to...confession and novel!

Annaz, I so understand! I've been there, though I have 5 children.....they are all over. My dd is 'behind' but not really. What I mean is, she is not on grade level in everything, but ps teachers will tell you neither are ALL of the students in their classrooms! Her spelling is not 'up to snuff' but...

Re: OT - Standardized Testing Issue

I agree, it sounds as if he is soaring! I also get frustrated with the apparent absent-mindedness of my children.....but I get that way sometimes, too. I'm sure his score will be great. I wouldn't try to do anything differently except maybe encourage him to take his time and read everything/listen c...

Re: OT Snacking...

Just want to add that my older children don't generally have a morning snack, but they are allowed to have one in the afternoon around 2 or 3. None of them are allowed to just go in and get a snack....they must always ask first. And, our oldest is up until 9:30, so sometimes (usually) he will have a...

Re: OT Snacking...

For us it depends on various things like age, did they eat all of their b'fast/lunch/dinner, how close to meal time is it, etc. We also have the rule like you do for string cheese, except it's 1 per child every other day. For my toddler, she has a snack time between b'fast and lunch and after her af...

Re: Questioning separate guides too (but didn't want to hi-jack

We probably wil l have to cross that bridge later, but.....would we substitute a history read aloud and story time book for the ones we've done in Preparing....when we got back to it later? And my youngest son missed out on everything until he began listening in a few weeks ago, but dd has done the ...

Re: Questioning separate guides too (but didn't want to hi-jack

Thanks so much for all of your replies. There's much to ponder. I appreciate the time you've all taken to respond. :? My dd is in unit 22 of Preparing.....my son is on around unit 10 (really not sure...we're out of town right now so I can't check) of RTR. I think part of my problem with my oldest so...

Re: Questioning separate guides too (but didn't want to hi-jack

water2wine...are you talking left side or right side skills? I already know he won't join in on the right side, we'll keep him with his own stuff that he's already using. We just began R&S 2 a couple of weeks ago though, and he's doing well with that. We would likely just omit the things from the le...

Re: Questioning separate guides too (but didn't want to hi-jack

Well, look at that! I did not realize....you would think I'd have checked again since WE HAVE THE MANUAL RIGHT HERE IN OUR HOME! I was thinking the age range was 9-11. That helps a lot. I might be able to combine the younger two and just keep doing the basics on his level....he won't be read...
