Re: Carrie, how do you know if a dictation level is too easy?
Thanks! I think we'll give it some more time and see.... They funny thing is, spelling was not a strength for a long time, but making a picture of the words in preparation for dictation must come easily to her. I will be interested to see how she does in the next few weeks.

Carrie, how do you know if a dictation level is too easy?
We are using CTC and doing Level 4, which I thought would be just challenging enough without frustrating her. However, she has not had to repeat any passages yet. (we've done the first 4). Does this mean I should move her up a level, or is it expected that they not make mistakes very often if...

Re: Resistance is futile...I need help.
Just a thought... are you keeping the lessons to the alloted time frame you have scheduled? The suggested timeframes with HOD are very doable, and I find that if I try to keep going past that time, I am more likely to get resistance or tears, etc. Set a timer. Even if the lesson isn't completely fin...

Re: Week inReview 08-20-09
We took 2 weeks to do the first unit of CTC, but really enjoyed it. Here's a picture of dd's Poetry artwork. My LHFHG guys are really enjoying the Rhymes in Motion and other activities that let them get up and move!

Does anyone know suggested times for CTC?
I know the total is supposed to be about 4-4 1/2 hours, but I'd like to see the suggested time for each box in CTC. It seems like I have seen them somewhere, but can't find them on the board. Thanks!

How long does it take to get into your HOD groove?
This was our first week using HOD (CTC and LHFHG) . As much as we have really enjoyed the activities and reading, school for 10yo using CTC is taking a long time... we only got not quite three days of lessons done this week in four days. Does it just take time to get into the HOD groove? :) Thanks! ...

Re: Schedule question for Carrie
Thanks so much! This really helps. Yesterday went pretty smoothly with a tentative schedule, but I can tell I still have some tweaking to do. I will do what you suggested, Carrie. I actually have MOTH, and it has helped, but I guess I just needed some practical advice on how to schedule our days, es...

Re: Just one question
I have used Truthquest and, although it is a good resource, I found myself missing a curriculum that would tie all the pieces together for me and explain the flow of history. This is what HOD does for me. As for Apologia Science and A Child's Geography vol. 1, these are both part of the Hearts for H...

Schedule question for Carrie
Carrie, I'm trying to come up with our schedule with HOD. We started on Monday, and we are having a great time with the activities, but I can see I need a firm schedule to stick to in order to keep my sanity. :D (I'm a Betty, so schedules don't come easily to me, though!) I noticed in reading the sc...

Re: Which writing program should I use for my daughter?
Just a plug for Writing with the Best, which is what is recommended with CTC. The lessons are broken up into very manageable bits- a little each day- and concepts are gradually built on one another. On the Writing with the Best website, the author says she has used it with all kinds of students, inc...

Our first two days with LHFHG and CTC
Okay, so we began LHFHG and CTC yesterday going half-speed (only doing one side each day). Yesterday was really wonderful- everything flowed so smoothly and the kids loved it! However, today was really rough!!! (It was our right side day- the basics, which are of course not as fun and interesting to...

Re: WOW!!! CTC guide!
I got my CTC this afternoon and have been poring over it ever since! I have to say, it totally meets, even surpasses my expectations. This is the kind of education I have wanted to give my kids since starting homeschooling 5 or 6 years ago, but never felt equipped to do. Now I do! This manual and th...
