Re: Help choosing for 2 children...
Hi Lynn. Welcome to the HOD board. :) Have you had a chance to study the placement chart yet? It is very accurate. With the information you gave about your kids, it sounds like Preparing would be a great fit for your oldest, or possibly CTC, but I might lean more towards Preparing since the Charlott...

Re: CTC history Ency. and English recom.
Hi Alison. I just wanted to comment on spelling through dictation. It has been wonderful for my very poor spellers. :D We have been using dictation, within the HOD guides, for 2 1/2 years, and both my boys have improved drastically! It has taken a while though. I didn't see the results immediatly. W...

Re: Is Singapore Math meant to be used a grade behind?
Thank you all for your help. I feel more comfortable about using Singapore 1a again, and with waiting a year on Rod and Staff for grammar.

Re: HOD Bigger Activities?
Hi Summer. :) The only activities with motor type skills that I can think of are in the Bible memory portion. You could easily skip that part if your kids don't need the movement to help with memorization. My kids have enjoyed that part. :) Some examples of activities in Bigger are drawing a self po...

Is Singapore Math meant to be used a grade behind?
My daughter, now 7, used Singapore 1A for the first semester of 1st grade. When we got to 1B, she had a really hard time. Even with the hands on activities in the Beyond guide. We didn't make it too far into 1B before we shelved it for a while. I've gone backwards, and am now having her finish up Ea...

Re: Please tell me we will like CTC as much as we love PHFHG
Hi Linda. :) We used Preparing last year and loved it! :D Then we went backward a little and used some of Bigger Hearts this past fall, long story  . Now we are using CTC and absolutely love it! I think this is our favorite guide so far. I was so worried that The Story of the Ancient World wou...

Re: Favorite readers from Bigger and DITHOR 4/5?
Hi Alison. Our favorites were Bud and Me, By the Great Horn Spoon, and Guns for General Washington. Bud and Me was such a wonderful book, I think it was my husbands favorite (he read it aloud to the boys). It is a more expensive book, but so worth it.

Julie, you must be so proud. Wyatt did an excellent job writing that paragraph.
I'm so glad Write with the Best is working out. I may have to try it before we get to CTC.

Re: Emerging Readers question...
Thanks for all the suggestions. :) Does this sound like a good plan? I bought the Early Readers Bible and will have her start that first. I like the idea of going through both Bibles before starting the rest of the books. :) I'm also going go ahead and use a phonics workbook, either MCP or ETC. I ma...

Re: Emerging Readers question...
Thanks Patti and Sharyn. :) I appreciate the suggestions. After thinking about it and discussing with my husband, I really don't think she needs to start over with another phonics program. She may just need some more practice. I'm going to start her with the emerging readers, with the easier of the ...

Emerging Readers question...
My daughter is finishing up the Reading Lesson, and is doing well, but I still don't think she is reading fluently. Is that okay? I had her try the Beginners Bible today and she could not read the word separated, and struggled with the word empty. Should I try the Early Readers Bible instead? The sa...
