Questions about Bigger
Hello, We started Bigger with my 2nd grader this year and I had a really hard time running two guides and we ended up dropping HOD altogether. I have been trying to decide what we are going to do next year and had almost pushed the BUY button on another curriculum, but I wasn't feeling God's peace a...

Thank you to the ladies who have responded, I think we will plug on with Carrie's suggestions and see how he does over the next few books.

Re: DITHOR Question - Stone Fox SPOILER alert!
Is this a stupid question? I feel like I always ask the dumb questions. Let me ask another way - if the reading and writing skills are there, but the comprehension is not, are you supposed to press on and wait for comprehension to come, or should we be reading easier books. He enjoys the books...

Re: Help our Art Projects are a FLOP....
That project didnt work well for us, either. We are also having a hard time with the clay activities. I have never used clay before, it is very tiresome for my kids hands.

DITHOR Question - Stone Fox SPOILER alert!
My ds (7) is doing DITHOR, level 2. Here's my dilemma - he is reading very well, but I don't think his comprehension is good, especially when things are inferred. My question is, is this something that will come as he reads? Or does he need to be reading simpler material? For example, we just finish...

Re: Bigger: teachers manual for Preparing to Build?
I love having it because we each have a book while doing the lesson. He has "his" book. That being said, I never look at the answers. I just like us each having our own book.

Re: Bigger - In what order do YOU do the boxes?
We do Bible first. Then, we do history and poetry on the couch. At the kitchen table, we then do math, language arts, and then science. (My daughter who is doing LHFHG is sprinkled between some of these subjects.) After lunch, we do storytime and DITHOR, and finish off with the rotating box.

Re: When to start cursive?
My son is in 2nd/Bigger and we are doing cursive. The first week or two I thought it was a big mistake, but all of the sudden, everything is flowing much smoother! He is 7 and has always had great fine motor skills, although his printing is a little sloppy.

I think I've finally *got* it!
Whew! Well, we are just about 5 weeks in using LHFHG and BHFHG. My kids are absolutely enamored with school, it is amazing. They are both LOVING HOD. I have loved the idea, what is covered, how it all is integrated, etc. That being said, I have been SO frustrated. I'd call my best friend and tell he...

Re: Roll Call - When are you all starting?
We will be starting Unit 5 in both Bigger and Little Hearts this week. Kids are LOVING it. It's taking a bit for me to find my groove. I'm definitely the kinda gal that needs to see the big picture, so I've been playing around with some ideas on how to help me see the whole picture and still keep th...

Re: Spelling Help?
Those kinds of things are actually covered in Rod and Staff grammar-those rules really apply to grammar and mechanics, like regular and irregular plural forms of words (baby-babies, knife-knives, for example) :) Studied dictation for spelling, when you follow the instructions in the appendix of the...

Love this! My son's "dream" re: school
So my 7 y.o. son woke up this morning after a restful sleep with the most wonderful smile on his face. I asked him how he slept, and he replied, "Mom, I had the most wonderful dream that I met Amelia Earhart!" (We just finished reading her biography for DITHOR 2.) He went on to tell me all the "adve...
