Re: Placement ? for an early reader

Another "agree" here! We are using LHFHG for Kindergarten, along with the Emerging Readers for my son, who has been reading since he was 3. It's perfect for him. He can read and comprehend what he reads pretty well at about a 2nd-3rd grade level, BUT, his maturity level for listening to the History ...

Re: Afternoons, socialization, and a philosophy of life

I am reading this thread with interest, as I too have struggled with how much to let each child do outside of our home, like sports, classes, etc. On the one hand, I want them to be able to learn a sport or two to see what they enjoy. On the other hand, with 7 children, even when each child has only...

I'm not there yet, but found this one. We'll be there soon! This one is labeled, but has a link to an unlabeled one as well.

Julie, WOW! What a wonderful paragraph! Thanks for sharing! You should be very proud of him!

Re: O/T: QUICK lunch ideas???

We like: 1. Pepperoni roll-ups (Canned crescent rolls, sprinkle each triangle with mozzerella or cheddar (or both) and add mini-pepperonis, roll up starting with the thin point side, and bake about 10 minutes or so). Serve with fruit or salad. 2. Ramen noodle cups-of-soups. We get these from Walmart...

Re: Preparing using both History packs

I'm glad you asked this, because my oldest is going to feel sad when she has to miss out on the Draw Through History that her younger brother gets to do as well. No answers for you, but I am in the same boat! :|

We also do the "whisper" thing. We have a skip count music CD as well, which is where I got the idea. It is a great CD. Here's a link:

Plan for combining by Bigger Hearts

I have 7 kids. The oldest 2 are doing Preparing this year (dd grade 5 w/extensions and ds grade 4). The next two are second graders, doing Beyond Little Hearts with Singapore 1B and Extra Practice 1, both are Emerging Readers. The next two are doing LHFHG (ds grade 1, ds K) and both are Emerging Rea...

We used index cards in with two holes and rings. That worked well for us so my son could practice alphabetizing each time he had to add a vocabulary word.

Re: Doubts lurking about homeschooling...

I can chime in a little here. My kids went to public school (olders) and private K (youngers) before this past year, and the joy was completely zapped right out of our household. My husband was seeing a very grumpy and stressed Mommy in the mornings, trying to get them out the door on time. And, he ...

Re: How does HOD work for you when life gets crazy?

We've had crazy times throughout the past years off and on, and HOD has always worked well for us. It travels well, it works in therapy waiting rooms, and dc can learn to be independent with more than intended if necessary. It is on only the extremely rare "had to go to the emergency room" type day...
