Science in HOD!!!
Hi everyone, I just wanted to share what my DS has been doing in Science in RTR so far AND after being with HOD for the past 4 years. One of the complaints that I hear/read from others about HOD is that it is "light" in Science, but I have actually found the opposite to be true and have witnessed ju...

Re: Singapore 2A Question
Thanks, everyone! I needed to be reminded that it's okay if I "talk" him through some of the problems and help him think them through. Since there are no "tests" in Singapore, I guess I look at those reviews as that (only to myself) and get worried if he is lost on some of it. He is also my child th...

Re: RTR Notebook Question
Thanks for all the ideas, everybody!!! I don't know why I didn't think of the clear plastic page protectors! We are using those as he finishes each page now and they are working great!

RTR Notebook Question
Hi everyone! Does anyone have any ideas for how to keep the BEAUTIFUL notebooking pages from ripping out of my DS's binder? I have tried those white reinforcement things and it STILL rips! It is driving me nuts b/c I don't want every page coming out, you know?!? Is my son just crazy-rough or ...

Singapore 2A Question
Hi all! I just have a question about Singapore 2A. Now that my 2nd grader is getting into multiplication and division, the word problems in the review he just completed had him choose whether to add, subtract, multiply, or divide. He had a HARD time choosing the correct one (really, he couldn't do i...

Re: So excited for next year! 9th and 5th grades!
YAY, Rebecca!!! :D How exciting! I just realized that this Fall I will also start repeating guides with LHFHG with my DD! I can also testify that my oldest DS (who just started his 4th program with HOD) has SUCH a love of learning...HOD is most definitely meeting one (along with others!) of our goal...

Re: Iowa Test Of Basic Skills 3rd Grade
YES! My oldest DS did just that and scored in the 94th percentile overall, 96th in Reading Comprehension, and 100th in Spelling (we had been doing Dictation for 2 years by then). :D Probably his lowest score was "Social Studies" and that was just because we didn't focus on some of the general topics...

My DS will be starting RTR in a few weeks and I am VERY excited to expose him to Shakespeare's plays for the first time! Thankful for the way that Carrie has introduced them in this guide!

YAY!!! Just remember to ease into it and don't feel like you have to start at full-speed with each guide right in the beginning...I will be taking my own advice too on Monday morning b/c we have had a 2 week break for Christmas and are out of our groove! :D I pray you have a wonderful 2013 school ye...

Re: My son places strongly in CTC but hasn't used Preparing
Sounds to me like he places in CTC also. What if you start with CTC, but do it at half-speed and see how he responds to it? If he's chomping at the bit for more, go full-speed by all means. We slowed Bigger half-speed (did it over 1.5 years rather than 1) when I saw my oldest DS (in 2nd at the time)...

Re: Use with gifted? 3rd and 4th grade daughters
My 2 cents: since this is your first time homeschooling and with HOD, I would go with Bigger if that is where they mostly place on the placement chart. Have you had a chance to look at it? http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php Bigger is a GREAT place to start and, as previous posters h...
