Question: If I'm doing Preparing and CTC, could I combine Storytime or Read-aloud books? My oldest hasn't taken Preparing so it wouldn't be a repeat and would cut down on my workload. Has anyone done this?
Thanks,
Shannon

Re: I'm leaning towards Preparing
Thanks Sharon for the speedy reply!
Now I'm looking at the Storytime Read alouds and seeing how I can condense them in order to do only one Read-aloud with all my kids. I'm leaning towards the Preparing Books because my oldest hasn't done that program. Does anyone think that's workable?

I'm leaning towards Preparing
This board has been so helpful to me but I have another question :) Okay, to summarize briefly, Oldest will do CTC, decided. Next daughter (10 next fall) I want to group her with my 7 year old. Now this year, they have done Beyond together. Logically, I would do Bigger with them both next year. Howe...

Math facts/Daughter with short attention span
Okay, I need some advice. My daughter is 9, will be 10 in October. She has a relatively short attention span. She also has absence seisures but is under medication for those. While she has made some leaps and bounds this year with reading and writing, math is still a huge struggle. Well, more specif...

CTC Writing Question
If my daughter is a fairly strong writer and we are planning on doing CTC next year, do you think it would work at all to substiute Ancient History Based Writing lessons instead of Write with the Best. I'm just thinking she is very good on the creative side of writing but needs some work with struct...

Re: Canadian Question
Hi, Just wanted to chime in and say I'm a "Canadian user" to. Doesn't that sound illegal? :D This has been our first year with HOD and we found it because we wanted to do an Am. History Year. We've been doing Bigger and Beyond. We have really enjoyed having the manual for the open and go format and ...

Deciding between CTC and RTR
Hi Carrie or Julie, What would be the deciding factor between these two programs? I have a daughter 11, turning 12 next Feb. (will be grade 7 next year) who is a very independent reader and writer (has finished Ignite your Writing vol. 1 and 2 this year). She joined her younger sisters with Bigger t...

Re: Give your opinion: Science in future guides
Hi Carrie, I loved :D your explaination of your philosophy for science in the middle grades! It makes a lot of sense. It even gave me confidence to stick with programs that may be slightly "lower level" than grade level, if they are enjoying it and it is getting done! Too high of expectations and no...

Re: Give your opinion: Science in future guides
I have a question. We've loved the Elem. Apologia books and heard lots of good things about the older books. Just curious as to why you wouldn't consider them for the upper levels? I don't know much about them but are they too textbooky for CM style? I've heard they are very thorough and God -honour...

RTR Apologia question
Hi Carrie
Just researching science and I'm wondering why RTR hasn't chosen to use the General Science course from Apologia. Is it higher level or not CM enough? Could someone subsitute it for RTR science?
Thamks,
Shannon

Preparing Question
In Preparing, are the books for new independant readers scheduled in the appedix to correspond with the correct week, like extensions did for Bigger?

Re: Preparing with a 7 yr. old?
Thank you Donna T. That was very helpful. I'm leaning towards doing Preparing this year even if I have to take it half-pace. I want to teach to my older child and whatever the 2nd grader gets for history /science is a bonus. I will focus on basic skills with her. Not having CHOW in hand, I couldn't ...

Preparing with a 7 yr. old?
Is anybody doing Preparing with a 7 yr. old? Next year I was half thinking of combining my 9 (almost 10) year old with my 7 year old. She's a fairly good reader and academically pretty bright although technically she'd only be in grade 2. Do you think it would be way over her head?
Thanks,
Shannon

Re: R & S Placement question/Writing placement
Thanks everyone for the help. I forgot to say she's 11 but will be going into grade 7 next year (turning 12 in February). I hope to get a better look at the R& S books at our provincial convention this year. I'm leaning towards putting her in level 6 but I'll have a look. Also, I think I will go ahe...
