Re: introduction

Welcome Rebecca,

I just started using Beyond and LHTH with my boys. I look forward to hearing about your year.

Sorry I don't have any good ways to track hours as we are not required too, but I would think that you will be including alot of your everyday life in those hours too.

Re: No Handwriting in Beyond?

Yes, handwriting is included as copywork in Beyond. I look at as my son know how to write now he needs practice and that is what the copy work is.

Re: Need help with whether to start LHTH this year!

I have started LHTH with my 3 year old son. I am just doing it 3 or so days a week. I am guessing it will take about 1.5 years to get through. Then he will be almost 5 and ready to start Little Hearts. He was also participating in all the activites in Little Hearts with big brother.

Re: DITHOR - do you let your kids pick their books

I like that idea. I have not thought about how I will go about selecting books once we start DITHOR. I really like your idea of having preselected books at the appropriate reading level and the child can choose which they will read. I would agree that my son would be more willing to read if he helps...

Re: I'm new and need some help please!!!

Hi Chryste, Your oldest two are the right age for LHFHG. My oldest is also considered gifted. We did LHFHG last year and it would certainly be enough for this year too. I moved through the math at a faster pace for him - he just got it and was bored. I did add in some extra copy work - usually the b...

Re: Holy Moly, Great reading Batman!!

That is awesome. I would go ahead and finish the emergent readers and start DITHOR. That is my plan. I figure we will start half way through Beyond at the pace my son is currently going. One thing that helped my son start to not mind reading chapter books was to alternate the emergent readers with a...

I don't have any ideas for you but that is a great idea.

BTW how do you bake bread and then not eat the whole loaf. I have yet to figure that out:)

Little Hearts little to no copying that I remember. We did just finish but my memory can be spotty:)

In Bigger, which we haven't done yet, I believe you may want to copy the poetry. Other then that I don't think there is any copying.

I think we have done 5 days in a week twice in the last year. We school year round. So we do 3-4 days a week, sometimes less. We take off weeks as need for various reasons. I just make sure we are on schedule to complete the book in a year. So I just do what ever day is next - every so often we spli...

We started Beyond and Little Hands this last week. Oh what fun. The boys are loving the challenges and Micah absolutely loves that he gets to do school now too. We went to my parents cabin for a long weekend, so we did school at the cabin on Friday. Here are some pictures. Here is Micah singing "A-A...

My son does some independent work everyday. Most days it is his copy work. If it is not done neatly then it is redone or more is assigned. Many times I am in the room with him but working with his brother or we are in the other room reading a story. He also frequently works on his math independently...
