Baking Bread
We are working on Unit 13 in LHFHG. Loved the lesson on feeding the 5,000. My son thought it was great to make bread. He helped read the recipe, mixed the dough and even kneaded it. This is a child who does not like to get his hands dirty but loves to help cook. It amazed him that the bread dough go...

Welcome Angie, I would think LHFHG would be fine for your kids. I would get the 1st or 2nd grade science book to use and look at the emergent reader list for Beyond to use with your 7 year old. I am currently using LHFHG for my 4.5 for K but I am hoping to repeat it with him in 2nd when his little b...

Anyone teaching a Foreign Language?
Well I am wondering if anyone is teaching a foreign language and if so which one and what are you using? My BIL is concerned that our boys will be behind in thier schooling if we don't teach them a foreign language. I respect my BIL therefore would like to look into this option, however I only speak...

Yes money is an issue but when it comes to my kids education I will find a way to make it work. I love the fact that there is very little I will have to purchase a second and third time for my younger two. Your currciulum is very flexible and a wonderful value. I would encourage you to go with the b...

Tricia and Carrie thanks for your input. I was wondering if it was a maturity thing or not. We are doing Hooked on Phonics and he is having problems with some of thier readers and easy readers from the library. We are currently just going back and rereading all the books we have done. He wants to se...

How to encourage a reluctant reader?
I know my son is only 4.5 years old, however he is doing a great job with reading and is very proud when he does read. My issue is he gets frustrated with to many words on the page and longer stories. Any ideas to help with this.

Our Schdule is pretty flexible. Mostly in the morning we run errands, go to therapy (my oldest has speech and OT) or stay home. On the days we stay home, I usually plan an extra activity or do a longer craft project that my 2 year old can participate in. Bryce loves to make books so that is also whe...

I am trying to add in fun unit studies to do in the morning. Currently Bryce is working on putting together a book about leaves and how they change colors. I do bettter in the morning if I have something structured I can do with both boys. My 2 year old does the art projects, listens to the stories ...

I am Karen mom to 3 boys. Bryce 4.5, Micah 2.5 and Matthew 5 months. I am currently using LHFHG with Bryce. He loves to do school every afternoon. I think by far his favorite activity has been making "soil" in Unit 6. He asks to make that for snack a couple times a week and asks almost daily what sn...
