Using HOD with child who has developmental delay

Hello, all. We have just learned that our 19-month-old has a developmental delay in her communication ability as well as adaptive ability (which involves feeding herself, dressing herself, etc.). She also failed the M-CHAT, which is a screening checklist for toddlers regarding risks for autism. The ...

Re: How long do you take off after a baby?

Um....3 years? Sorry, that's just what popped into my head because with our crazy last 3 years it seems like we have been 'off' more than on! I think we will finally be able to get back on track in the fall. I know others on this board will give you serious and helpful advice.

Re: Considering options for dd 12 & ds 14

Thanks, ladies. I have some things to consider. I am doing Beyond in the afternoons with my 8 yo while his sisters nap. I'm expecting to be able to do the same with the older kids' teacher-directed subjects as needed, that way the mornings are fairly open for playing with the little girls, baking, e...

Considering options for dd 12 & ds 14

Hello, all! It's been quite a while since I've been very active on the boards. :? We took kind of a break from HOD. I was planning to get through Beyond with my 8 yo, but still have not completed it.....I AM still planning to finish, though. Then move on into the next guides as we get to them. I am ...

Re: HS question: Incorporating the beef-ups

I have an add-on question! :o Is this high school credit-worthy as is (with extensions) or are there additional books, etc. that Carrie has recommended? I was thinking of doing this with my 7th grader in the fall (returning to HOD) but then wondered if I could have them combine, but I don't want to ...

Lisa, the extensions are for 9th and 10th graders using M to MM. So with the extensions, yes, it can be for 9th grade.

Thanks, Carrie, that's great! :D Does that apply to the science portion as well?

Re: Sneak Peek #4: New Guide Missions to Modern Marvels...

Will the level need to be beefed up for a child using the extensions but in high school? I'm thinking that won't be necessary according to what is listed on the description, but I just want to make sure. We are in the midst of searching out curr. for our son who will begin high school in the fall an...

Re: Potty Training and changing up our school day

We are potty training now too. I try to have dd go every hour or so, sometimes less if I know she's had a lot to drink. We don't have 'room time' but we do 'blanket time', so I will have her go before we start that. If she has to go during, then we stop the timer, go to the bathroom, then set the ti...

Re: Completed a FULL day in Beyond!

Our 2nd day went great! I think part of it too is that I have decided we are going to get this done. No excuses! I'm looking forward to tomorrow....remembering that my son said Tuesday, "I really like Boys and Girls of Colonial Days , that's a good book." He's loving it, and I think the one-on-one t...

Re: HOD TM?

For us it depends on our time constraints that day. If we have activities, we will get the right side things done first, then come back for the readings and project-type things later. Or, if I am busy and cannot read or help then, I will have my son start his handwriting, copy work, math, etc., doin...

Completed a FULL day in Beyond!

So, obviously, I can't judge every day on today....BUT, it was a great day! My son and I completed every box in Beyond. This is a perfect program for him and I think it has worked out for the best that we ended up not really beginning it until now. He is 8.5 and ready for the readings finally....he ...

Tamara, I'm so sorry you're having such a struggle with your health right now. That really does affect every other area, too. :( I don't know how many of the books are available on audio but surely some are. Maybe you could get your oldest (or some other family member or friend) to agree to record h...

Re: Using HOD in Florida? Re: laws and records

I think you are supposed to keep a list of textbooks/books read or used to go along with the portfolio. I don't necessarily follow the state's requirements since we are registered with the private school. Yes, you send in your 'notice of intent to homeschool', then if/when you stop homeschooling you...
