Re: Starting Little Hands to Heaven

I'm jumping in to agree with the pp. Even if your not done with it by the time upyour dd is 5 I would just keep going in it until your done, then go to the next one whenever that may be. We took about 1 1/2 years to do LHTH with ds. We started just after he turned 4, went slowly for a long time and ...

Re: Spelling/dictaion: not sure what to do

I recently posted about a similar question about spelling/dictation here, it might help. http://www.heartofdakota.com/board3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=12775 I think the extra curriculum isn't necessary esp if you haven't been doing it. :) The workbook is probly fine, like you said, sub it for the ER box. ...

Re: Bigger - choices in LA, what do you do?

Thanks for replying Julie and thanks for clearing that up for me! Spelling list 2 it is!! It is probly a good idea to keep something simple & familiar this year. I'm almost done prepping for Bigger and it looks like we are in for a very fun & full year!! I can't wait to do some new things like noteb...

Re: Confused about DITHR. Just a quick question.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but with this schedule you will actually have to buy 2 student books of the 2/3. Becuz you will use all of it in Bigger and then need it again in PHFHG??

Then after that you could use the 4/5 and 6/7/8 books each spread over 2 years.

Re: Bigger - choices in LA, what do you do?

Thank you for your reply!!! You have helped confirm for me that just cursive is ok! My DD will be very happy to not have to do copywork. I actually don't think she'll have a problem with the notebook writing but she HATES copywork!!! :) I'm still unsure about spelling or dictation! I thought I had r...

Re: What guides are you doing?

We have 3 days left in Beyond with DD 8!! We did it 4 days a week last year & loved our time in it. We are both very excited to start Bigger, hopefully on Thursday!! My DS 5 has 10 weeks of LHTH left & I can't believe the growth I've seen in him this last year. So we will start LHFHG with him in Jan...

Bigger - choices in LA, what do you do?

We are finishing up Beyond w/ DD (8 yrs old) this week and are very excited to start Bigger!!! I have a couple questions about LA: 1. We are going to start cursive, DD is very excited about that! But should we also do poetry copywork? I know the intro says either/or, but I'm just wondering what the ...

Re: Selecting Program Level

I'll let the experts give you more placement advice but I did remember this old post about narration. It might help you understand that better. It is retelling of the story not memorizing.

Re: Selecting Program Level

I can't answer all your questions about CTC becuz I'm not there yet. But start here for accurate placing. http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php

Also, yes you can do whatever math program you wish.

Not sure at the higher levels but I don't think there is any testing in HOD.

My daughter also enjoyed Sword in the Tree. 21 Balloons was very good, but slow to start.
