Re: 1st year doing HOD as a full time SAHM - what would you

My question is though....as I look to the future, to actually putting a schedule together....and hopefully sticking to the schedule.....what are some of your most precious memories of things you did with your kids. I don't want to miss out on what my kids are learning any more and I want to be invo...

Re: New to HOD - placement questions

How much writing can your kids do? I think placement depends a lot on writing stamina and reading levels and the difficulty they can read well. Carrie has them write daily in History, Bible, writing programs, science, grammar programs, her reading program, etc. It adds up to quite a bit. How long of...

Re: Coming Back to HOD

Thank you, Mbrand. It's nice to know that I'm not alone :) Now I just neeed to figure out the 12 year old....weak writer and lacks independence. My 15 year old daughter is pretty independent, so I see her doing well in the Highschool courses. :) Your 12 year old sounds similar to my 12 year old. Mi...

Re: Which Reading Books To Choose?

OK, I just realized that the oldest has been reading Diary of A Wimpy Kid and Captain Underpants books. Not the best books, I know, but I'm wondering if I can use those to determine where to put him in reading? He would place in level 3 book pack from what you are saying. He would do the level 3 bo...

Re: Which Reading Books To Choose?

I am going to have my almost 8 year old and almost 10 year old in Bigger starting this summer. I am not sure which reading books to choose for them, and I am not sure what reading levels they are at. They have both been in school for 2 years while I had to take a break from homeschool. I am also no...

Re: Combining a Kinder with a 2nd grader. Is it possible?

I would not put a 6yo in Bigger. It might work for a year, with that child basically tagging along in things of interest while focusing on the basics, but it isn't a long term solution. If you want to combine, you have to place the lower and beef up for the older. That would mean doing LHFHG with b...

Re: MTMM / WG Question

Have you considered maybe doing the science in Rev2Rev with MtMM? It is still physical science, but I bet it would be shorter days compared to WG. Thank you Stephanie for the idea! :) I am now going to compare Rev2Rev, MTMM, and WG science and see which one I think would be the best fit. Thanks! :)...

Re: MTMM / WG Question

My son did Algebra 1 with the MTMM guide and it worked out fine. We did TT though and I don't think it takes quite as long as Saxon. Also I think it would work to sub in the science from WG, but keep in mind that sometimes they do 2 lessons and that can take quite awhile to do. Sometimes science wa...

Science Placement for 8th with MTMM?

(Original post edited and changed June 28th AM after more research and prayer, and after LynnH's and Stephanie's original responses.) I am thinking of putting my oldest into MTMM for his 8th grade year coming up. On the placement chart he places very well into this guide. It is in the area of scienc...

Thank you so much kidsforHim for bumping me up! :D I don't mind you following this at all, and I hope it is helping you as much as it has helped me! :) Thank you LynnH for your post. HOD Highschool Questions?

(Edited Sunday 6/25/17 after more research & prayer) I am currently planning for next year, and I am praying much for the LORD's leading in an 8th - 12th plan for my oldest. I am also praying over plans for my up-coming 6th and 5th graders. Through this process my husband and I both find ourselves b...

Re: Spelling Woes

He sounds a lot like my ds13. Similar to you I think we have used multiple approaches to spelling. The one I find that has the most impact and works the best for him is dictation. He remembers spelling when it is in context. I remember early on someone telling me that a great reader didn't necessari...

Re: Extensions

I thought this might help too. It seems more age based rather than grade based:

Re: Extensions

I agree with daybreak. Perhaps, the guide is implying age 12 is 6th and 13 7th? It seems possible to me. Where I live the new cut off in many school districts is June 15th. This means from June 16th - June 15th the following year 6th graders are turning 12 before the September start and after. Thus,...
