Since my oldest one is starting high school next year, I really wish you would have written the guides from the top down... High school is looking so daunting...:-) My Greyson has been doing the little h...

I haven't combined the younger guides, but Heart of Reading worked very well for my multi-level boys. I would think, given the wonderful flexibility of the curriculum that you could adjust as needed to combine more then one child. I have found the more I can combine, the better! When I try to keep e...

That's an interesting question-I've never thought of our school in terms of time frames before! We tend to be quite relaxed, so really, you completely opened a new train of thought for me! :-) Thanks! But now, enough about me! on to your question! lol! I found ds #2 took much longer with his things ...

I don't think we've added anything...maybe our own hands-on project instead of some of the book projects with the heart of reading curric. we've gotten hooked on lapbooks...so we have been turning everything into a lapbook lately! I am using some substitutions, I guess you could say. My readin...

My library does that and I've always wondered if it was worth it! thanks for the input! I've taken some of my books and had the binding cut off, and then 3-hole-punched and put it in a binder. That way I can take out what i need for the week and put it in my "master binder" that has everyone's weekl...

I like to have the stories line up with the history simply because I have so many that are on different levels! I used to use a literature-based curriculum, and we used the history books for our read alouds and the "read alouds" for our "maybe if we get time this is our fun reading" category. Maybe ...

I've never used a distinct outline to teach reading, so I like to see what other people think, too! We've always done letter games, reading aloud, phonics games, etc things we just kind of make up on the fly. I did buy a book this year because my 7 year old is allergic to the printed word... :lol an...

Gilgamesh
We read this as part of a "fun" summer thing we did, and I thought it would be good for the myth genre for the older boys. We used the one called, "Gilgamesh the Hero" and it has around 100 pages. It was nice in that it didn't get into the more adult issues that the ancient story covers, and it was ...

Books for folk tale
I was wondering if anyone has used one of the "compilation" type books for this genre? I do have the recommended book list, and my librarian has been helpful, but my son really wants to do the grimms fairy tales type book. I was kind of thinking of using it and making each story a study, kwim? this ...
