Re: Bigger: The Wright Brothers.. HELP

Yes, thank you Carrie. :) At the time we purchased our Bigger set, we were unsure we would like HOD and didn't want to spend the money for new materials until we were sure. Now that we are sure we LOVE HOD :) We will try to buy new each year. I appreciate the time and care you have taken in writing ...

Re: Bigger: The Wright Brothers.. HELP

We ran into a problem using the book we have. :( There is no timeline in it. I believe the guide said page 145 on unit 28 day 5 for the notebooking. There wasn't anything like this in our book.

Re: Bigger: The Wright Brothers.. HELP

Yes, it's the right book. Strange... but I know it will still match up alright because the "key idea" made sense. Thanks for your help.

Bigger: The Wright Brothers.. HELP

We started reading this today and my page numbers don't match what is in the guide. For instance, the guide on day one says read chapter one pages 1-10. In the book chapter one is pages 9-18. Does anyone know why? Do I have the wrong book? I bought my guide and the books used.

Re: A Little Nervous about Rod & Staff English

I agree with everything said on this thread, except for one. It takes us much longer most days than 15 minutes to get through a lesson, and yes, that is doing almost all of it orally. I noticed that when I started trying to rush it to make it take us 20 minutes my son started getting some of the ind...

Re: Looking for idea for home ec. course

Have you looked at Polished Cornerstones? It's published by Doorposts. I am looking at it right now for my daughter (who is much younger). In the book it has a beginner, intermediate, and advanced area. I think your daughter would do really well age wise in the advanced level activities. So far I am...

Re: Do you go year-round or when do you start your year?

We're doing year round. We start in September then take December, April, and August off. Starting up our new curriculum/year in September again. This has worked very well for us because I have found that after three months of school we are all ready for a break. Plus it seems to be better than havin...

Re: Screamer

I recommend reading at http://www.raisinggodlytomatoes.com. There are a lot of tips and help from a mom of 10. You can isolate in the crib while still near to make sure it's safe. You can do hand over mouth allowing room to take breaths if pitching a crying fit. Like hand on, off for deep breath, h...

Re: Screamer

I have no advice for you. I just wanted to let you know that I could have written this post myself a year ago. Our 3rd child is this child you speak of lol We've found that seclusion works best for him. He has a safe place away from everyone else and when he starts screaming he knows he has to go th...

Re: Extensions verses Self-Study History books in Preparing

Thanks for the replies! It seems that the majority does them both. I do wonder however if this is what was intended for the program. I guess maybe I should put a call in. I don't want to overload my kiddo expecting too much of him if it is more than what was intended.

Re: Extensions verses Self-Study History books in Preparing

We do both of the sets. I had my daughter read the Deluxe Self-Study books on her own instead of having me read them aloud and did whatever was in the independent study box, but she also did the extension books and I did the questioning in the appendix with her when she was done. This was done in h...

Re: Finish guides in one year??

We are doing Bigger this year and we will be finished within the current school year. We started in Septemeber, took December and this month (April) off. We'll be done towards the end of June, hopefully. So yes, done in one school year. We plan on doing Preparing next year and having it take a schoo...
