Re: 2010 convention Schedule?

Ah, Ladies! You are so fun! :D We did consider going to Arizona this year, but it was too close to the next convention we had on our schedule. We have to be home in between conventions, in order to keep our own homeschooling moving forward! Blessings, Carrie Nuh...huh....not really...you did...

The visual narration chart is also just the way I think. quote]

 Oh I hate when women say this. That means I won't do it, because I stink at it. :? You're very gifted.

Very cool, very cool.

Daisy...where did that visual narration chart idea come from? Was that from Bigger?
Also I love that garden idea you had making that root and flower out of veggies. Are these your ideas?

That is taken care of...at least in Beyond and Bigger. I haven't gotten farther...yet.

Re: To buy books or not?

I think it depends: what you think your time is worth; is it worth the extra stress on picking up and returning and maybe not having what you need when you need it; the gas it takes to go; would the books ever be re-read; do you have more than one child that will use the program; are the funds there...

Re: How much time do you spend on each box in BHFHG and LHFHG?

I'm using Bigger, but per box, I couldn't tell you time wise. I use CLE for LA and Reading and LA takes longer then R&S Grammar. Even those vary in time from day to day. Carrie states 3-31/2 hours for Bigger. And that is about right. We school from 11-3-3:30 with an hour break.

Re: Copywork Question

One more question. When doing copywork, do any of you have your children use writing tablets, or do you use notebook paper. My dd has a struggle with handwriting. When she was making valentines for her friends at school, I was concerned by what I saw in her writing skills. Her teacher feels she is ...

Re: Homeschooling Only One

I am; 9 yr old dd. We did Beyond last year and started Bigger this year. We definitely have different issues than families, don't we? HOD is working well, because it's fun and it's less independent (Beyond and Bigger). I know it grows with more independence later. I do the bible verse study excercis...

Re: An honest question about CtC-would love to come back!

Liz, rather than turning this thead into a listing of things that moms have liked or disliked in Bigger Hearts, which is of very little constructive help, if you could rephrase your original question to one that we can constructively help answer about CTC that would be appreciated. Blessings...

Re: Desperate for views on learning diacritical symbols

No expert at all on this but we do use CLE LA. I agree it gets to be a bit much. That is part of the reason why we only use CLE half time. I find something really odd about it. While it absolutely freaks me out a bit with all the symbols even my dd with CP can get them and it really is not a huge d...

Re: Desperate for views on learning diacritical symbols

Yeah....programs don't use them. I can't imagine getting to college or in my 40's and wondering what this means in a dictionary. LOL!
Anyway, with Julie or Carrie being a teacher, I'd be interested to know their thoughts on these and their useage. :D

Desperate for views on learning diacritical symbols

I learned these. It helps to know how to pronounce words that you don't know when you look them up in the dictionary. I did not use HOD prior to Beyond so I don't know if any of HOD's phonics recommendations got into this. I'm using CLE LA which of course is heavy on these symbols. But they're odd. ...

In addition, R&S is mastery and CLE is spiral. Both are good programs. It's whatever works best for your child.

Re: Frustrating child of mine.

LOL, my dd is the same way. She's 9 going on 7, but will be 10 in June. I could never leave her to go do 3 pages. I know, because I have btdt. And hour later, she's done 1 page, usually wrong, because she didn't read directions. You know how adults get caught up with "but firsts?" so do they, just i...
