Re: Carrie... what would you recommend for a four year Engl

Thank you! I've made so many "mistakes" with being overly ambitious with my first child. LOL I think we'll go with 1-2 lessons per week with the English 8, and I will go ahead and buy the English 9 sometime (I know I've seen it cheaply at used curriculum sales, but was never sure if I should buy it)...

Re: Please be a part of the MTMM Photobook!!!

I know we have a few pictures, but finding them will be harder. I will try to get to it sometime over the next month.

Re: Why and How Long?

Ease of use Love the books Kids enjoy it (and I do too) We started when my oldest was in third grade (Bigger Hearts) and have been using it ever since. She'll be in ninth grade in August and will use the World Geography guide. You can see in my signature what other guides we'll have for the 2014-201...

Re: MTMM for a girl with little previous science?

I like it for eighth grade. It worked very well for my daughter last year. (She has done HOD since 3rd grade/Bigger Hearts.) You may need to do a little "hand holding" with the written narrations at first... maybe help define a topic sentence before she starts writing. I did that with my son in his ...

Re: Not Learning Letters

Julie, Did you like the AAR pre-level? Would you recommend it? Not really. No. AAR levels 1-3 have worked very well for an older child of mine who is below grade level in his reading ability. For a new reader, I think there is WAY too much on a page. It's a STARK contrast to the Reading Lesson.

Re: MTMM for a girl with little previous science?

How is her reading ability?

One book (Atoms in the Family) was a real challenge for my daughter, who I consider an excellent reader and very diligent student.

Re: Not Learning Letters

I don't know. I have a DD who will be 7 in November. I did not start trying to teach her letters much until this past school year. She knows a few more than your son, but not by much. I switched from All About Reading (which we'd worked through the Pre-Reader level) to the Reading Lesson. Thanks to ...

Carrie... what would you recommend for a four year English

plan if we're already in Rod & Staff 8 (completed Lesson 25) and we'll just be starting 9th grade this fall? One Rod & Staff lesson per week, spread over two days, to help stretch it out? Or is that too little? Two per week? Any thoughts on what, if anything, to pick up for grammar content when we d...

Re: Rod and staff level 4

Do the Oral practice on one day, the written practice the next. (They are two different sections of similar problems in the textbook.) I would still do all or nearly all orally, but that's a natural way to divide it. I do like to buy the worksheets (they're only a few dollars), so if you get those t...

Re: Daily schedules for large families - please share

I have not been successful with real detailed grids. I work with one child at a time (generally in the same order, but I need to have some flexibility... we're a farm family, and I don't always know in advance when my husband will need a given child or two or even three to help with some chores) whi...

Re: Package Pricing: New World History Guide

Yay! Thank you so much for putting this together! I really do appreciate it. My enthusiasm for your curriculum has spurred interest from several friends that are now planning to use it as well. I just can't contain my love of homeschooling with your guides. Thanks again! Am I correct that we can pre...

Re: Reading Troubles

Good advice! I'd take a break, and come back strong, maybe with an incentive chart. :D I'd also get the CD if you don't have it. Here is a past thread that may be helpful too... http://www.heartofdakota.com/board3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=13088&p=94201 In Christ, Julie Thanks for the reminder about the ...

Re: Is there a projected release date

We are working on the catalog right now! Much of it is done, but we are finishing out some of the WH section still. :D The WH guide's projected date is end of August, beginning of Sept. We'll have a post on the progress of this in July. Thanks so much for your eager anticipation and excitement - we...
