Re: Singapore Math Version Question

Thank you for your reply. It doesn't end at 6a/6b but goes through 8a/8b. We may just have to have a different plan for ds11. 7a-8b MIF has been compared to Discovering Mathematics though. It was roughly compared to Pre-Algebra/Algebra 1 skills. Verticy also offers it through 8b for him. I want him ...

Re: Revival to Revolution and high school...

1. One post I read here in the forums stood out from 2008 where you were considering Cornerstone Curriculum and other Worldview courses. Is Cornerstone Curriculum still an option or in your high school plan? I'd love to have a 'peek' inside your head to see what books/courses you are thinking of fo...

Singapore Math Version Question

My ds11 has dyslexia/dysgraphia. We chose to have him do his 3 R's using Calvert's Verticy Academy (designed for dyslexics) courses this year. He is doing Preparing for everything else except spelling, phonics, writing, and math. My big question is about Singapore Math in Focus. He is using MIF 3a/3...

Re: Math help-What after TT Algebra 1?

Will the geometry actually have a schedule in WH? The Algebra doesn't in WG. It is just a suggested text to use and there isn't any type of scheduling within the HOD guide just a box that says to do it.

Re: Grading "Learning Through History"

I use homeschool helper on the nook. They have options for assignments to be graded under 3 categories daily, quiz, or test. I assign daily 25%, quiz 25%, and test 50%. With HOD I mostly put everything under daily and I am using the free printables under yahoo groups since I have an older ds using P...

Re: Making A Transcript ASAP

Here is the sort of rule of thumb. Don't put more on there than what looks possible to have achieved. 2 credits in electives would not be bad for the year. I wouldn't put more than 8 credits for the year though. http://www.hslda.org/highschool/academics.asp#transcripts This link from HSLDA may help ...

Re: Science question

Was she high school this year? High school is different than younger grades b/c you are looking for credits. The level of difficulty is all going to pretty much be the same for things like history/science/religion....math and language arts will still increase, but history and science is more about h...

Re: Please help!

What grade level do you considered your 13 year old supposed to be in now? Do you consider him 7th or 8th? My ds11 struggles with school so much. He has dyslexia and dysgraphia. When we came back to HOD, I put him in Preparing even though a year and a half ago he had completed through Bigger and the...

Re: Telling Time

If you have to test, spend a bit more time on time. That sounds odd, but seriously ds took the IOWA and the CAT this year for 1st grade. His math sections were chock full of analog clocks and not just to the half hour and hour. It was not even just quarter hours either, but quite a few that read lik...

Re: World Geography Guide

Another thought, school year round. We do and it gives us 40 school weeks. We borrow New Zealand's school calendar and start mid-January do 9 weeks 1 week term break 9 weeks 4-5 weeks semester break 9 weeks 1 week term break 4-5 weeks semester break (end of year). This gives about a month in July an...

Re: World Geography Guide

It sounds as if you will be doing what we are doing with WG which is not all of the guide. I have scheduled out for us 3 hours from the WG guide that includes Bible, WG, Geography Activities, World Religion/Devotional Reading, and Logic. So it is taking us only 3 hours from the WG guide, but our mat...

Re: Singapore Math and finishing guide

My favorite math manipulative that I bought was base ten blocks. These are my suggestions and I have done this with my kiddos. Print out a hundred chart and laminate it. Print out number line/lines then laminate it. Get dry erase markers and let your child have the laminated printables as well as ba...

Re: WG: Too many books, not enough writing? Carrie?

We do our narrations based on the expectations in the guide. I don't think that is 5 paragraph essay style. I just flipped through the guide and don't see where that is a focus of the narration. I know there is some sort of basic amount of sentences you are looking for though. CC is really structure...

Re: WG: Too many books, not enough writing? Carrie?

Having toured CC and knowing many families in the challenge program, I wouldn't compare HOD to them for college purposes. The cc tour that we did really showed me that what one person would call a "heavy" workload others would call light. I would just look up and know what you need for admittance to...
