Re: Bigger Extension Help
Thanks again Julie. I really appreciate your thoughts. I do have a tendency to try to add too much, so I appreciate the cautions. We had our first day of school to day and it went really great. I spent some time putting together a schedule that looks like it's going to work fairly well. It had some ...

Vocab for first three lessons of IEW Medieval writing
The first three lessons of vocabulary are already cut out from the book and I can't figure out which words are for which lessons. Could someone who has the book let me know? If not, I guess we'll just do the best we can. Thanks in advance.

Re: Bigger Extension Help
Thanks, Julie! So, do people usually save the science readings for Friday? I was looking at it and wondering if it was meant to be stretched out over several days since it seemed like a lot of pages for one day. I don't think it would be impossible to do in one day, but I thought it might be more ma...

Bigger Extension Help
I'm setting up school for this coming year and I have a question about Bigger Extensions. Do you use the suggested activities (oral and written narrations) for the history read-alouds and the science or both? What I mean is on any given day do you have your child narrate on both history and science ...

Re: Questions about DITHR
You weren't all that confusing, Julie. It's just that I have a problem of racing through things and not slowing down to read carefully. :) I almost always read a book in one or two days, so this slower schedule will be a stretch for me, too. I do like to stick to schedules and we did pretty well wit...

Re: Questions about DITHR
Okay, I spent some time with the teacher's guide again and it's all clear now. Only reading on the DITHOR days, right? I think that's going to be very hard for my boys.

Re: Questions about DITHR
We are going to be starting DITHOR soon with my three boys. Originally I was just going to have the youngest do it to try it out, but after reading through the teacher's guide I decided that it would be so much fun to do it all together. I am really looking forward to using it this coming year. I re...

Re: What my 4 yo does that gains me 1 hour of teaching time
Thanks for sharing, Julie. I had already decided that I was going to put some toys and activities on a shelf for my 4 year old and number them. This gives me some great creative ideas to consider.

That looks good, except mine is missing The Pilgrims in Holland so it looks like I missed one. Maybe I'm not the most reliable person to go by.

That's neat that it worked out for you like that. I was so pleased when we ended up studying Thanksgiving the day before Thanksgiving day earlier this year in Beyond.

I have been blessed reading this thread.
Chillin'inandover, I love that thought about the grass being green if we water it. How true!

Thanks Julie and Carrie
I really appreciate your responses, because some of those reasons you mentioned (not getting math facts down and getting too fast to harder more abstract thinking) have been what are holding me back. I have to admit while I was debating I let him do six lessons last week in one day, but I will go ba...

Re: Using HOD overseas
We are in a very remote part of Africa and I have found that the experiments in HOD are very flexible. I love that Carrie often lists different options. Usually I will have something on the list. Often what I really find I am lacking are certain foods that the experiments might call for: apples, pot...
