Re: let child work ahead in math?

Thanks for the replies. I know my son would be thrilled to just drop Abeka and work at his own pace in Singapore. I am just worried that he wouldn't memorize his math facts if he goes too quickly. I have noticed though that he is memorizing them or his tricks to figure them out. He is doing multipli...

let child work ahead in math?

My son (who turned 7 in Sept.) is always wanting to work ahead in his math. He is in Singapore 1B. I have been holding him back all year, because I looked ahead and thought maybe he just wasn't ready for some of the concepts and I wanted to delay getting to them. Now though, looking ahead, until the...

Some HOD blessings

I just wanted to share some HOD blessings. Some weeks ago I was teaching my son in Beyond. We were ready for story time when one of the older boys came with a complaint against his brother. I could see his point and for a minute I didn't know what to say. I looked down while I was trying to come up ...

Re: Week 20 and LOVING it!

Have fun with Archimedes. My boys loved him! Even the seven year old listened in and they kept begging me to read more. I think they convinced me to read the chapter on the war machines a day ahead of time. :D

Re: Week 20 and LOVING it!

Joy, I just wanted to add that you are right about the CTC history notebooks being beautiful. I love looking through them and seeing what my boys have done. And the pictures they have drawn so far for Draw and Write Through History are incredible. And, momtofive, I've looked through the catalog, too...

Re: Week 20 and LOVING it!

Congratulations Joy. Isn't it great to love school so much? I have two children in CTC and one in Beyond and we are just several weeks ahead of you. This year has been great and we have never enjoyed school as much as we have this year.

Re: Dough suggestions, Rev to Rev

Our clays NEVER seem to come out right - even when we follow it to the letter - and we've been at HOD for a few years now. I gave up and use air dry clay a lot of the times. I don't know if it is our humidity or what. Other people seem to have great results, so I would think altitude could have an ...

Re: CTC Prophecy Fulfillment chart Unit 6

Thanks a lot. I was thinking along those lines, but I wasn't sure. Actually, I completely missed the connection between God setting the people of Israel free and between Jesus setting us free from our sins until I read the "key idea".

CTC Prophecy Fulfillment chart Unit 6

We are on Unit 6 of CTC and enjoying it very much. My son had a question today on the prophecy chart and I wasn't able to help him so I told him I would ask on here. He thought it was a good idea and doesn't let me forget about it. The prophecy is in Exodus 3:13-15 and the fulfillment is in John 13:...

Re: Loving BLHFHG so far!

I'm glad you're enjoying it. We started Beyond this year, too, and are loving it. For some reason, we skipped the ocean current experiment, but maybe I should squeeze it in on a different day. :D I'm sure your girls will have a lot of fun this coming year.

Yes, he does! :D

My son enjoyed reading from his Bible so much yesterday and today. He was so pleased when I told him he can sometimes do two lessons to make up for the days he missed. And he did such a good job with it, too.

I'm so excited at what I found!

I discovered that I can buy The Early Reader's Bible that is used in Beyond for Kindle. Now, I know that a children's Bible shouldn't really be on a Kindle, but we're overseas and when I ordered my school books I neglected to order the Bible. I was counting every ounce of weight and I figured that I...

Re: Shepherds headdress in CTC ?

Hi Morning Glory, You must be close to where we are in CTC. We just had our meal today. Our headdresses didn't look quite as nice either since the only material I could find was flowered. :? The boys had a lot of fun anyway. We decided that the meal would be our lunch so the whole family participate...

Re: Shepherds headdress in CTC ?

Thanks a lot. That's just what I was looking for. It looks great. :D Ours look a lot like that but the straws are mismatched and I'm not sure yet what we're going to use for the material. I understand completely about the lack of a shirt. I've so often taken pictures and then later realized that the...
