Re: To those of you who do 2 or more HOD programs....
Well I'm only doing 2 right now BLHFHG, and LHFHG! We school for about 3-4 hrs a day. Not all of that time is HOD, because we do some other stuff, and that isn't all straight school either. I plan to add in LHTH next year, and I think it will be very doable.

Re: Almost Done with Spelling
If you do not want to rush him into DITHOR why not have him read all the supplementary titles from the emergent list. My ds had already read about half the emergent reader list before we started HOD, so I had him read some of the supplementary titles as well as some other historical step into readin...

Re: Readers?
Thanks, I think I have a Dick and Jane book. I will have to look. My ds did not like to read at that age, so we pretty much just stuck to phonics lessons until he could read Little Bear, and Frog and Toad. She is so different than him  ! I have to slow her down because she just wants to read, a...

Re: Readers?
How easy is the Early Readers bible? Maybe I should just get that for her.

Readers?
Ok so my dd(5) is doing Reading Made Easy, and we are on like lesson 31. She desperately wants to read real books, and has been reading the 5 Bob books we own over and over this week. I have the whole emergent reader set except the Bible, but she is not quite ready for those. Can anyone recommend so...

Re: Little Hearts Handwriting Question
That is very normal. Just keep working at it but not to the point of frustration. Dry erase boards, finger tracing, and even playdoh are good ways to strengthen hand muscles.

Re: Can a 5 year old do Beyond?
I agree! I actually attempted to do that this year, but I ended up getting Little Hearts. I am so happy with my decision, and it really is not bad at all to do two programs.

We will be finished with unit 20 of Beyond when we take Christmas break, but we started in July. Dd will be finished with unit 14 of Little hearts at Christmas break.

Re: Very obvious question re Singapore Math
The US editions teaches more metric than it does standard. I think you would be just fine with the US edition. As far as teaching I use the Textbook, hands on ideas, and ideas from the HIG's to teach the concepts. After I go over the concepts with ds he does the workbook pages with a bit of help fro...

Re: Teaching Multiplication/Division
My ds is doing Singapore 2a, and we have covered multiples of 2, and are starting 3's. I am having him memorize them. Using skip counting, flash cards, and games. He pretty much has 2's and 3's memorized already.

Re: Copywork Concern
I do not know what is exactly normal for this age as all kids are different. I can tell you that my 7 year old (2nd grade) can and does copy the whole poem over the week, and does not usually have errors unless he is distracted. I have had him doing copywork since K, and I emphasize attention. His h...

Apologia science?
We love the Apologia exploring creation series. My dh is doing them with my ds in the evenings. So far they have gone through Zoology 3, and are doing Zoology 1 this year. I do the Beyond science with my ds during our regular school time. What I'm wondering is does Carrie plan to use any of the othe...

Re: Poetry copywork questions
My ds is 7 and he does all his copywork in regular lined notebooks. For Poetry and Bible verses he uses one of those mead composition books that is wide ruled.
