Re: Is it time to uncombine?
There is such wise advice here! You are wise to really take time to consider this decision. I have a question for you... looking at the BHFHG Plans, what could ds enjoy and do well with independently? For example, here is a portion of a past post by Carrie about how BHFHG can be made more independe...

Re: How to teach Rod and Staff at varying levels
If you wanted the oldest one to move through more quickly then you could always do two lessons a day instead of one. Yes I was thinking about doing this with both the older boys... so far the lessons seem very simple. Maybe that is only because we're at the beginning of the books and it is probably...

Re: How to teach Rod and Staff at varying levels
Thanks for your suggestions! I'll give it a try and see how it goes. It seems like the daily lessons may not be very long anyway. I did a little with each of the kids yesterday and it went well. Not sure how it will all work out yet, but wanted to tell you thank you for your advice.

How to teach Rod and Staff at varying levels
Good morning ladies, We are switching to Rod and Staff grammar at all levels here, and when I called the office for placement advice they told me to start the kids off much lower than their grade levels. Right now I have a 10th grade boy beginning R&S level 5, an 8th grade boy beginning R&S level 4,...

Re: What a difference a week makes!
Wow, Lynn, I loved reading this. So very encouraging -- brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for the peek into what God is teaching you. We are starting World Geography in a couple of days with my 10th grade boy who, like your son, struggles in many ways but works hard and learns so much. I'll be a c...

Re: questions about singapore
Singapore is quite advanced. Our ds went pretty much directly from 6B to Foerster's Algebra 1 (which can be counted as a 'with honors' course in Algebra 1). :D Since your ds is only 10 yo and in 5th grade, you could follow this sequence... 5th grade: 3B, 4A 6th grade: 4B, 5A 7th grade: 5B, 6A 8th g...

Re: JULIE (my3sons) - Scheduling Question. . . .
Julie and Lisa, I just wanted to take a second and tell you both thank you for taking the time to answer my questions from a few days ago. Coming up with a good schedule is always one of the hardest parts of a new year for me. I've got a list with many of your suggestions written down and I'm knee-d...

Re: JULIE (my3sons) - Scheduling Question. . . .
We're really focused on not stressing out about how long things take this year. In the past we've done that, and I feel like we've lost the blessing of our studies that way. Our main focus is to do quality work and really LEARN, even if it takes a bit longer. The funny thing is, now that we're keep...

Re: JULIE (my3sons) - Scheduling Question. . . .
Listening in ... I'm in the process of setting up our initial schedule for WG and all our other guides, too. We are running 5 guides this year, which I know many will think I'm crazy for doing, but it truly is what's best for my kids. They really thrive doing their own program Just wanted to add tha...

Re: Need some encouragement!
I just finished doing CTC with my 12 year old with a newborn in the house (born in February) and I found that it could be done pretty independently if needed. That is not ideal of course, but it was doable on the days that I really needed him to be able to operate with less input from me. There were...

Re: which independent books for Preparing?
For the ones who need extensions they would still do the guide as written (including the Independent History box which is the "self-study Deluxe History package") and then they would also add in on top of the regular work the extension schedule in the back of the guide, which would be the "self-stu...

which independent books for Preparing?
Hi everyone, I'm gathering the books we need for Preparing and I am a little confused about the independent readers... maybe someone can help straighten things out in my mind?? We have most of the books for the basic package already, and if I understand it right, those are scheduled in the Storytime...

Re: Anyone Do 1/2 Speed Consistently?
Being able to go half speed with the HOD guides is such a blessing! I love having that option. We did Bigger at half speed for part of last year with one of my dc. The time came when half speed was no longer enough, and at that point we transitioned into full speed. To me it seems like you might not...
