Algebra II suggestions?

I have a 17 year old son who is almost done with all of his credits. He's never gone through a whole HOD guide, but is using parts of WG & WH. We started HOD after he was almost done with everything and didn't want to rock the boat by switching everything. One of the main things he still has to have...

Re: Getting Ready to Start up again

We're starting up on Aug. 3rd also. I've been busy reading and getting ready! It looks like we've got a great year coming up (RevToRev). :) I've never started this early before, but I'm determined to get done by May 1st next year because that seems to be when "Spring Fever" hits the worst and I want...

Re: Tears over Draw and Write Through History

What a great idea to trace it! My son absolutely hates all the drawing stuff. :( It's a battle to get him to even do it, but tracing.... maybe that would be doable. :)

Re: Spiral binding the student notebooks

I spiral bound one of mine and I hole-punched the next one. The both have advantages. :) I like the spiral because I could turn the pages back and just have it as "one page." But, it's easy to tear too if you're not careful. The hole punched can also tear, but then you can use the little round reinf...

Re: Which level: Preparing or Creation to Christ

Did you look at the placement chart for the skills that he would need to know? My thoughts would be to go with CTC and then if he doesn't quite know how to do the oral or written narrations, just slow down a bit until he gets those skills. That would also keep you on course for the high school years...

Re: Field trip ideas for Res2Ref and Rev2Rev

You're lucky to be on the east coast! Everything is on that side of the US! Definitely all the ones that Julie mentioned, plus Washington, D.C. We went to Williamsburg about 7 years ago, it was WONDERFUL!!! But since you're in PA., you've got Gettysburg and even Lancaster County. In Res.to Ref, ther...

What is the importance of diagramming?

My 13 year old asked me this and honestly, I don't have an answer. *I* love to diagram and think it's fun to break the sentence apart, but he sees no need. And for him, there probably isn't a need. He's not going into writing for a career and probably not even going to college. But if someone can gi...

Re: Rod & Staff... & diagramming. Where to begin?

I'm also one of the "crazies" who love diagramming. :D We're in R & S 6 and there is a lot in it. My son knows the basics but was getting stuck as we got towards the later lessons, so we've gone back to the beginning as of a couple of days ago and we're marching through making sure he's understandin...

Re: HOD High School is a HUGE help!

Thank you, Cindy. That was SO encouraging to read. We're in in second year of HOD with RTR. This is my last child and I've never used a curriculum like this for a long period of time. We always end up back in textbooks or workbooks, so I'm planning to stick it out because I love HOD so much! But I h...

Re: Help w/Written Narration

Thanks for your response, Carrie. :) I'm going to print out what you said or I'll never remember it. I think he was copying word for word. :( He also kept saying "I have to have ______ # of sentences." That was part of it too, I guess, he didn't know how to get enough sentences. He hates writing. Al...

Re: Help w/Written Narration

Your daughter's was great too! I only said boys because they tend to write differently, at least my boys have been very different from my girls. :D

I ended up helping him a LOT. :( But maybe next time, he can get it figured out a little better. We.can.do.this. :D

Re: Help w/Written Narration

Thank you John's mom! Yes, that was a great narration! Between your sons' and Julie's, I'm hoping he can see what he needs to do. :) *I* can, so now I have to get him to. :D

Re: Help w/Written Narration

Julie, I just found Riley's and zoomed in so I could read it. :) I love reading all your "weeks" because your boys are about the same age as mine and your youngest is the same as my grandson. :D Anyway, we are SO far behind what your boys do and it's sometimes quite depressing, but I'm hoping by tim...

Help w/Written Narration

We're in Unit 12 in RTR this week which means Thomas Acquinas was our topic. My son is 13 and not a writer, but he's trying. However, he doesn't "get" it. Today he was writing conversations and all kinds of things that were in the chapter. I'm going to go through and read it myself and write my own ...
