Re: DITHOR question
...My question is, does she just fill out the workbook pages for whichever book she happens to be reading on that day?... Yes, that's right! :D Just fill out the reading calendar in her student book (which for 2 books suggests a pacing of 10 days on one book, and 5 days on the other book). Then, fo...

DITHOR question
I hope I'm putting this in the right place. I've never seen a forum with a "main board" so I'm a little confused! :D DITHOR has several options for scheduling books: one book, two books, three books. If I want my child to read two books in a particular genre, I see that I spread it out over the time...

Re: DITHOR question
I JUST received my DITHOR so this comes from my knowledge of story construction rather than experience with DITHOR, but I'm wondering if a follow-up question might be "what does the main character really want?" It might not be stated as a problem yet, but more of a desire.

Re: Differences between Language Arts...
I'm looking for language arts for my fourth grader. I'd planned to use Queen but I see that HOD recommends Rod and Staff. When I was a homeschooler several decades ago, Rod and Staff had a reputation for being a bit behind grade level, so I've never even looked at it. It has been several decades tho...

Re: Differences between Language Arts...
I am trying to find information on Language Arts within Heart of Dakota. We're using Queen workbooks this year because I like the gentle approach in the younger grades. Next year we're going to need something else though. I see some language resources listed in the catalog near Drawn Into the Heart ...

Re: Going to start Beyond Little Hearts
It's the preparation and gathering of supplies that worry me. Can I really be that organized? I tried to do a Heart of Dakota program for preschool last year and I didn't stick with it. My oldest was in 2nd grade and I concentrated on her. Organization of children's materials is difficult for us. La...

Re: Going to start Beyond Little Hearts
I did find that section, with other recommended titles and I think that will be helpful. :) The manual is a little overwhelming to me, as I'm used to a workbook format that is just open and do it. Dd has done well with the workbook format (ABeka)--we had tried Winter Promise in Kindergarten and it w...

Re: Going to start Beyond Little Hearts
Ok, I've looked for narration stuff in the manual, and I'm not finding anything about it, but there ARE lots of discussion questions. I can handle discussion questions. :) Other homeschool stuff I've read has always made narration sound complicated, as if the child is supposed to summarize in detail...

And please forgive me if I sound critical! I'm just prayerfully trying to teach my children about the Lord, and introduce Him as a loving companion and ever-present friend.

Re: Morning Bells in Beyond...
I should have been more clear in my previous reply. I'm sure this is a valuable book for some families. It just wasn't a good fit for us. My kids have heard a lot of Bible-story devotionals in today's language, and they have never heard the King James Bible. They'll read the classics someday--but fo...

Re: Morning Bells in Beyond...
I was given a copy of that book, but didn't feel it would be relevant or helpful to my kids. We're skipping it.

Re: Hide 'em in Your Heart
We've had the cd for years, and dd likes it. I do wish they'd just SING though...all that dialog is distracting!

independent study while Mom helps littles
Hi, we're starting Beyond LIttle Hearts in a few weeks with my 3rd grade daughter. I'm also going to be starting Kindergarten with my 5 year old daughter (using My Father's World). And 3 year old will be listening in and running around. :D We'll probably do ABeka science instead of the science in Be...

Re: Going to start Beyond Little Hearts
I am so disapointed that the books aren't keyed to the history. That's why I chose a program like this! I thought it used living books to teach history.

Re: Going to start Beyond Little Hearts
Oh no! Narration! I vaguely remember reading about this in a homeschooling book, and thinking it sounded complicated to implement. This is something new to us. Is it explained in the curriculum guide?
If I read the book will I be able to guide dd through this?
