Re: Placement

I'm so glad you are enjoying Bigger Hearts - such inspirational American history! It sounds just right for your nine-year-olds. I enjoyed the 9th through 12th grade high school guide sequence with HOD with our sons. The entire four-year sequence builds upon itself beautifully, and it did a wonderful...

Re: LHTH Review

Thank you, WriteItOnTheirHearts! I just love how the Lord brings families to Heart of Dakota, and it is often through special friendships like the two of you have! Being able to share with one another this year as you both homeschool with HOD will be such fun. I pray you have a wonderful upcoming ho...

Re: LHTH Review

Thank you for writing this review, Rebecca! I just love picturing your little Charles enjoying Little Hands to Heaven and for him looking forward to his 'cardigan' homeschool year! What a cutie! Little Hands to Heaven has so much to offer little ones, and it gives such a joyful start to homeschoolin...

Re: Questions about pacing Rod & Staff English for combined students

Bethany, I am so happy to hear your combined pairs are having a wonderful year! I love hearing about all the progress they are each making, and you can be very proud of your fourth grader doing so well in CTC. Skipping a guide is not easy. He really has stepped up to the plate, and you have helped h...

Re: Help with Placement

Hi Julie, I did see your reply, thank you so much! I have been pulling together the books that I have for Preparing. I will send you that list as soon as I locate everything. We just moved and I still have books in boxes. I have also been looking at R&S a little more in depth to see how it is laid ...

Re: Help with Placement

Just checking back to see if you'd seen my response! I've used Principles of Mathematics as well as R & S English, so I'd be happy to answer any questions about those as well! I can easily help with substitutions too - getting excited for your upcoming homeschooling with HOD!

In Christ,
Julie

Re: Help with Placement

Thanks for getting back to me, and I'm so glad we are on the same page and happy with this placement for your ds! As far as math, I think it is harder to come into Singapore Math when kiddos are older. Principle of Mathematics Book 1 might be a good fit. You can find out more about it here… https://...

Re: Help with Placement

Thank you for patiently answering my questions! You know your son so well, and your heart for him just shines through! I am leaning toward Preparing Hearts for His Glory (PHFHG), which is one of my very favorite guides anyway! The reading of the history is shared in PHFHG, and written narrations are...

Re: Help with Placement

Welcome to the HOD Message Board! Thank you for sharing about your son! Since he has been working on a 5th grade level with ACE, Bigger Hearts for His Glory (even with the extensions) would not be rigorous enough. Bigger Hearts is geared toward ages 7-9 years old (second/third grade), so your nearly...

Re: Preparing Science: Reading too Difficult

So good to hear from you! I cannot believe your oldest is in WH - oh my! Time flies!!! :D This is a really good question! I'll just start by saying remember this is a new skill in PHFHG. This is the first year kiddos begin reading independently for science and for a portion of their history (Indepen...

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!! :)

Oh Lisa, thank you so much for posting this! Seventeen years - wow! I know we've been blessed to have you on this board for many, many years, but I didn't realize it was for 17 years already?!? I especially loved reading how you get excited to teach and learn alongside your children each year. That ...

Re: High School Social Concerns

Carrie and I love The Socialization Trap, so thanks for sharing those links/posts LovingJesus!!! You asked a good question here, sweetsimplelife! It made me think how we've approached socialization as our sons have become older teens/young adults. In fact, your question made me think about this so m...

Re: Another "School Year" Started

Sounds like you are off to a great start, Stephanie! I'm so glad you have started and are off and running with your guides and your homeschooling! Your kids are doing so well, and you can feel so good about how you manage that all. I can empathize with the 'end of an era' you are feeling. My middle ...

Re: State history

Many states look at elementary/middle school state requirements for homeschool students as having to be completed by 8th grade. So, as mentioned already, you could probably just wait until 8th grade to do the state study. Or, if you want/need to do it sooner, you could easily do that too! Here is a ...

Re: Drawing/Sketching in Bigger

I'll agree with the others that HOD can still be a great fit. My 3rd child, who is possibly gifted, definitely advanced, has never liked drawing and coloring. He avoided it even as a toddler. When we came to HOD (he was 9 and placed into CTC), he sometimes asked to skip the drawing assignments (whi...
