Re: Guides taking much longer than Carrie and Julie's times
Oh, one other question... do you have him reading his own history or science? He's read the science on his own since the beginning of Bigger. He could read the history on his own, as he often initiates reading other history books indpendently, but so far I've continued reading it for the together t...

Re: Guides taking much longer than Carrie and Julie's times
I think I still would slow down. Preparing has a lot more writing in it-I wouldn't recommend rushing there if Bigger is still bogging him down. My dd is doing Preparing as a 5th grader-I know lots of other families do that, too. Don't hesitate to look at Bigger for part or all of his 4th grade year...

Re: Guides taking much longer than Carrie and Julie's times
Thank you all so much for taking the time to respond. I appreciate all of your insight! To answer a few questions, we did Beyond a year ago and this past year did Bigger. Due to a few detours I took (second guessing my curriculum decisions, mainly because of the time Bigger was taking), we're only h...

Guides taking much longer than Carrie and Julie's times
Help! No matter how hard I try, I am not able to match the time frames that Carrie and Julie have shared for when they do the guides with their own children. I'm not talking about dawdling on my ds's part, but rather the length of time it takes even when he is being diligent. To give you a few examp...

Re: Singapore: Discovering Mathematics
I was curious if you will be recommending the purchase of Geometer's Sketchpad, which is integrated in the new books, of if you'll just be using the textbooks as is.

Re: How long each day to complete COMPLETE curriculum?
... but if my children love the program, they learn, retain and it draws them to a deeper understanding and love for God I can live with 4.:D I think you'll find your statement above to be very true as you use HOD. I also think you'll discover that, with HOD, academic education and eternal educatio...

Re: R&S English 4 in Preparing vs. CTC
Yes, that is correct. If you are on the lower end of the age for CTC then you could only be in R&S4 by then and you would complete half during that year, and the other half in RTR. Then you would go at full pace of completing one guide that year the following year. Thanks for responding. We're on t...

R&S English 4 in Preparing vs. CTC
In looking through the introductions for both Preparing and CTC, it appears that if one chooses to use R&S 4 with Preparing, the entire book is covered in one year, but if one is using it with CTC, it is spread over two years. Is this correct?

How about typing them out in two columns, leaving space between each word? Then, you could print them out on card stock and cut them out close to the size of index cards.

Re: OT- Seton Home Testing?
I used Seton a few years ago. The CAT they offer is very basic. It gets the job done for meeting state requirements, but it won't give you a whole lot of information. The results only indicate how many questions a child got right out of the number asked, along with a percentile and stanine, which I ...

Re: When to Read Phyllis Wheatly
If you look at the girl pack for Bigger's Storytime, you'll see that "Phillis Wheatley" is actually the recommended biography book to be used for units 1-4, so I think it'd fit perfectly for you right now.

Re: Beyond - Phillipians 4:8 memorization-KJV
I remember memorizing this as part of a girl's club I was in at my church. For some reason, it helped me to think 4-letter word, long word, 4-letter word, 4-letter word and then the other two. Sounds silly, I know, but it worked for me. I could always remember the first true and then I knew honest w...

Re: Question on Preparing Dictation
The goal is that dc do all of that and eventually even memorize the whole paragraph that you are dictating and do it all from memory in the later years, so there is no need to rush into the more difficult passages. Success :D  This is the first time I've heard anything about the children nee...

Re: Snow Treasure?
I think it'd be great for your ds. My ds9 started the year off with it and was riveted by the story. Reading it was the highlight of his day! (He loves adventures!) We didn't find anything at all objectionable and actually, the story didn't go into any details on the evils of the Nazis, as far as wh...
