Re: Educating Myself in Charlotte Mason...How?

A Charlotte Mason Companion is an excelent book. I would start with that if you do not want to read the originals.

Re: Singapore Math 2nd grade.....

I say if you need it just buy the HIGs. They are pretty helpful and have extra games and ideas to go along with the lessons. My ds is doing 2a/2b along with beyond. I have the work/text books, and the HIGs I also use ideas from the Bigger guide.

Re: Shield Art Activity BLHFHG-Need a Little Help

I just traced a toy shield my kids had onto poster board, cut them out, and then added a handle. I didn't have any tinfoil so they just colored them.

Re: 2-2.5 hours max

It sounds fine to me! We are doing LHFHG, and BLHFHG. We spend about 3-4rs a day, but we are doing somethings on top of what is in the guide(Latin, Spelling, Art, Music, grammar, extra science, and things I'm reviewing). If I was just doing the guides it would take us about 2-3hrs, but I would thing...

Re: Would it be good to do LHTH at half speed?

It sounds fine to me, but I haven't used Little Hearts. I plan to use it with my dd2 for 2 years starting next fall. She will be 3.5-5.5. I will then start K with her when she is 5.5. She has a January birthday.

I would suggest All About Spelling. It is not recommended by HOD though, so I'm not sure if I'm supposed to.

Re: ?about using two guides?

LHFHG uses the Burgess books so storytime is not by genre. The amount of time I spend reading doesn't bother me at all. The funniest part is my ds did History for Little Pilgrims last year, but he still wants to hear it again, so maybe this really isn't gonna be an issue for her.

Re: ?about using two guides?

Mine are actually two years apart too, but dd is advanced for her age. She technically wouldn't be in K until next fall because her b-day is in Oct. We will see how the year goes, but I'm wondering if I should do something for her between LHFHG and BLHFHG.

?about using two guides?

Ok so I was trying to combine my two dc with Beyond, but I felt like dd was missing out on too much, and she would have a really tough time with Bigger next year. I ended up getting Little Hearts for her and now we are doing two guides. It is going great and the kids are both doing well. They do the...

I think it would be worth it to get the Beyond guide for the hands on math.

Re: King of the Wind

I just finished reading King of the wind with my ds(7) I would not consider him sensitive, and we both loved the book. At the beginning of the book there is some references to Islam(the horse and boy are from Morocco). I would say it could bother some kids, because the boy and his horse go through a...

Re: How do use your Teachers Guide

I am using two guides. Dd is using LHFHG as written, and ds is using BLHFHG with SM 2a/2b. I do quite a bit of flipping, but it doesn't bother me. I'm just happy not to have to type anything out.

Re: Spelling words in Kindergarten?

I'm no expert but I think inventive spelling is a terrible idea. Once a child imprints a certain spelling whether right or wrong in their mind it is hard to retrain them. If you want your kids to do creative writing have them dictate a story to you, and then they can copy it correctly from your model.

Re: Question about history readings in Beyond....

I wouldn't worry about them too much as that particular reader is from Christian Liberty Press 4th grade package. The vocabulary words are aimed at that age group. If you want to do them that's fine though I think.
